Kalzip standing seam profile merges from the roof into the façade in a single mould. #vnirman #engineeringprocurementandconstruction #kalzipmetalroofandfacadesystem #providingandfixing
The harbour city of Bilbao in the north of Spain is best known for its skyscrapers and the Guggenheim Museum designed by Frank Gehry. The Archivo Histórico de Euskadi sits rather modestly in the middle of a housing estate between two houses. And yet its special building envelope makes it stand out. The white standing seam profile from Kalzip merges from the roof into the façade in a single mould. 👷♂️ Cubrantia #kalzip #aluminium #madeofaluminium #architecture #construction #bilbao #sustainability #facade #metalfacade #metalroof #roofing #construction #constructionsite

This is the way to do precast brickwork. The result, a stunning looking project.
Director | Architect at BEAM architects A boy with a plan, a natural man, wearing a white stetson hat
FORM FOLLOWS FOLKLORE A 2022 survey returned that more than a third of Icelanders believe in elves; the ‘hidden-folk’ who dwell in rocks and boulders known as álfasteinar (elfstones). Routes that find an elfstone in their path are diverted around them in order to avoid the retribution that would result from disturbing or destroying them. In homage to this cultural tradition BEAM and EFLA’s Fossvog Bridge features three man-made elfstones that the pedestrian/bike path side-steps per tradition, pushing it into a serpentine alignment. The elfstones are large deck furniture installations, fulfilling multiple functions but chiefly providing shelter to some of Reykjavik’s most hidden folk. #bridge #bridges #bridge design #bridge architecture #bridge engineering #bridge construction #bridgedesign #bridgearchitecture #bridgeengineering #bridgeconstruction #reykjavik #iceland #EFLA #elves #alfasteinar #folklore #elfstone #fossvog #borgalina

In Aiguamúrcia, Tarragona, Catalonia, Spain, on an olive and almond tree farm, an adaptive reuse project saved what used to be an old shelter for farm workers. Paying careful attention to not damage the orginal structure, the buildings were rebuilt using local stone, as were the terraces and walls on the grounds, reminiscent of traditional building methods in the area. The property utilized locally sourced natural materials throughout the interiors of the space, with natural wood and terracotta tiles. The thick stone walls provide a strong thermal barrier, limiting the solar gain within the interior spaces and the terracotta roof limits heat absorption in summer months. Strategically placed windows and doors allow for lots of natural sunlight throughout the interior spaces limiting the need for energy usage. The limited the energy needed is provided via solar energy, lowering the carbon footprint of the property significantly. This project is a fantastic example of modern adaptive reuse projects with limited environmental impact and utilizing the resources within reach.
