Good piece from Engadget, talking about Microsoft's fears about Google's head-start in the AI field. I've always viewed Redmond's investment in OpenAI and its 2023 PR push to catapult AI into the mainstream as a coordinated effort to get Google to "show its cards" in terms of AI development - a way to figure out just how far behind Microsoft was in the AI race that was then taking place behind the scenes. This kind of retroactive reporting is very helpful. Helps us to identify where things are at today by developing a more clear picture on how we got here. #ArtificialIntelligence #BigTech #Innovation

Sam Altman returns to OpenAI, AI future questioned #OpenAI 🤝 Follow us on Discord 🔜: https://lnkd.in/gt823Zd3 🤝 Follow us on Whatsapp 🔜 https://wapia.in/wabeta _ ❇️ Summary: Sam Altman returned to lead OpenAI less than five days after his surprise dismissal, leading to a tug of war for his talent and exposing deep board divisions. The new interim board, led by Bret Taylor, will not include Altman at the outset and will focus on finding new directors to balance business imperatives and the need to protect the public from potentially harmful AI tools. Investors also expect changes in communication and Microsoft may have representation on the new board. The situation highlights the fragility of the AI ecosystem and the need for government regulation. Hashtags: #chatGPT #OpenAI #AIdebate

✅ Understand OpenAI's Drama in 15 seconds and what to do next 1. Big Idea: #OpenAI, the undisputable leader in the AI race, has ousted CEO Sam Altman! Accusations of not being fully transparent and possible conflicts of interest are swirling. Why does it matter, and what's the ripple effect? 2. Sam Altman's Problem: Transparency and trust are key in AI's realm. Altman's alleged opaque communication and potential split interest with Neuralink are huge red flags. The question is, how will this shape the future of OpenAI? Remember, OpenAI is a non-profit and for-profit company. 3. The future of OpenAI is uncertain, but what is clear, Sam Altman is not coming back, and Microsoft won't lose its leapfrogging competitive advantage over Google. My prediction: The majority of the board will resign and Microsoft will take control of the technology. #GPT5 4. Curiosity Spark: How does a CEO's firing reflect on AI's ethical management? Is this a novel precedent or a one-off scenario? The aftermath could redefine AI's ethical compass and strategy. #AIethics #LeadershipLessons Takeaways to Act On: 1. What are your thoughts on the Open AI fiasco going on since the last few days? If you have not been following it, let me give a quick recap - 17th Nov - OpenAI board fired Sam Altman citing inconsistencies in communication with the board. 17 hours later - Greg Brockman, Co-Founder & President announced his departure from OpenAI. 19th Nov - Among various rumours of their return, OpenAI clarified that they will not be returning. 20th Nov - Microsoft enters with Satya Nadella announcing that Sam & Greg will be joining Microsoft to lead a new Advanced AI Research team. On the same day, CNN cites letter reporting that more than 500 OpenAI employees have warned the company that they’ll switch to Microsoft. 21st Nov - Several reports came up talking about OpenAI investors looking to take legal action against OpenAI board. The internet is filled with multiple theories on what happened or why was Sam Altman fired. But the question that’s bothering me more is who’s the real winner in all of this? As part of the AI & tech industry, I can’t help but feel a sense of disappointment. Two of the founders moved out the company they had started, the reputation & the brand image of the company is at stake and if news blogs are to be believed, large number of employees are moving out of Open AI. What could have happened that broke down an organization like Open AI which was operating on the forefront of groundbreaking innovation globally? Only time will tell how this story unfolds but I think it is important to always remember that setbacks are an inevitable part of innovation, and my sincere hope is that OpenAI emerges stronger from this setback.
