AFSA has appointed two new members to its Board of Directors. The decision enables AFSA to benefit from an extensive expertise of Rashid Gaissin and Bryan Stirewalt, further strengthening AFSA’s strategic vision of delivering its service as a globally respected regulator of financial services in Eurasia. These appointments are the result of AFSA’s sustained efforts across various sectors to establish an environment that delivers fair and transparent financial and capital markets, in which individuals and institutions act with integrity. Rashid Gaissin is a leading expert in the legal and financial professions, currently serving as Partner at Eldwick Law firm (London, UK). Previously Mr. Gaissin worked as Partner and Head of Central Asia Desk at Armstrong Teasdale LLP and as Partner and Head of Legal Practice at KPMG Kazakhstan and Central Asia. His experience also includes working as a Co-Managing Partner at a law firm Integrites Kazakhstan and as Partner and Head of Eurasian legal practice at PricewaterhouseCoopers as well as a career with GRATA and Norton Rose Law Firms and KazTransOil. Bryan Stirewalt is a seasoned professional with nearly 40 years of experience in the financial sector. He started his career with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency as a National Bank Examiner. He then joined BearingPoint where he held project leadership and diplomacy roles in several emerging market locations. More recently Mr. Stirewalt served as the Chief Executive of the Dubai Financial Services Authority. He currently holds the post of the MENA Financial Services Regulatory Leader at Ernst & Young. In addition to these roles above, Mr. Stirewalt represented non-member jurisdictions around the world on banking supervision and regulation issues at the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision while serving as the Co-Chair of the Basel Consultative Group. He is currently an active member of the Global Coalition to Fight Financial Crime.
