Wim Troost passed away. Wim was one our founding fathers and CEO from 1987 to 1990, during a time when ASML was struggling to get its first customer. After his retirement, Wim remained a true ambassador for ASML and the high-tech industry. He inspired many generations after him. We are grateful for Wim’s contribution to ASML’s DNA and strong company culture, his leadership, perseverance and vision. We offer our condolences to Wim’s family.

Wim was before my time at ASML from mid 1990s to late 2000s but I was aware of all he had done for ASML in the important early years. I’m saddened by his passing, wishing I was able to shake his hand during my time at ASML. After ASML I espouse ASML’s philosophy in large part due to Wim & the other founders of ASML. Building the best advanced lithography system on earth by partnering with Philips, Zeiss & Schot, titans in each of their technologies instead of vertically integrating all the required technologies to build a system under one roof designed & built by one company. GCA, Nikon & Canon had this silo approach which led to their downfalls against ASML. When I joined ASML in 1996 I was struck by the world class, unmatched technology which made up the ASML ecosystem & the PAS stepper which was 40% more expensive than a comparable Nikon or Canon but 2X the productivity, more reliable with tighter specs. Customers did pay a premium to use ASML in their fabs because the capital cost for a system was not as important as the cost per good wafer/die was actually what customers wanted. I still remain a diehard ASML supporter in every thing I do in research & defense & thank people like Wim that made working for ASML possible.

Wim was a founding father of ASML & a great inspiration for us all. My condolences to his family at Wim's loss.

Bestuur Platform IO - AcadeMI-IO
