A year ago, I led a team to undertake the first of this visual analysis for a Mexican city. The results were indisputably clear. More vegetation coverage substantially reduce the surface temperature in the city. Monterrey is leading this effort with their green corridors strategic initiative. Over 30 cities in Mexico are suffering from extreme urban heat. They should follow Monterrey example. Better cities provide better opportunities for everyone. Understanding how to leverage the greatest potential from the linear infrastructure we create to connect with each other will be enable us to gain the most from the places we live.
Our new landmark study entitled Corridors: Designing linear infrastructure in a non-linear world launches today. In the report, Hassell’s Urban Research Lead Camilla Siggaard Andersen shows how Corridors – from our high streets to highways, waterways to railways – can, and indeed must, be designed to deliver greater value for all. While built linear infrastructure usually brings significant economic opportunities, the social and especially environmental costs are rapidly mounting. “For the sake of our planet and communities — a new approach is urgently required to tackle the shared multidimensional impacts of corridors,” says Camilla. Packed with ground-breaking projects from around the world along with a practical taxonomy and workshop toolkit, “this report should be on the meeting table from day one of every corridor project,” says Martin Knight, Managing Director Knight Architects. 🔗 Learn more and download the report: https://lnkd.in/gmbCJSnd Pictured (in order): Colma Creek, South San Francisco, USA. What if our cities didn’t have to look the way they do now? What if, instead of being crammed into giant vertical glass boxes, we had terraces with gardens, air, open space, and a real connection to nature? And what if our skyscrapers soared diagonally instead? And what if they weren’t skyscrapers at all but stacked villages with flying streets in between them and every amenity you could dream of just a short distance away? This is Habitat 67 and it may be one of the most important building ideas of the 20th century. It reimagined urban living and inspired a generation of architects. Check out this innovative article and video from The B1M to find out more about this exciting project! 👉https://soamp.li/kqYM You don't need to be a construction expert to become a construction recruiter, but a healthy interest in the industry is certainly beneficial.
