In Sept-Îles, working on the job site is a great opportunity to develop your expertise on the go and strengthen your leadership skills, as these three engineers will attest to while they’re experiencing their great adventure at BBA to the fullest.
🚧 Émile Claveau “The region has many major industrial companies. Experiences vary on site and allow me to be involved in all project stages, from system feasibility to commissioning. We learn fast in this type of environment. And in Sept-Îles, we get to mingle with our clients at sporting and cultural events, which helps strengthen our relationships.”
Émile is proud to have helped restart the project to partially convert an oil-fired system at ArcelorMittal's pellet plant to pyrolytic oil, a biofuel made from logging waste. The feasibility study to permanently convert this system won awards at the Grands Prix du génie-conseil québécois and at the Canadian Consulting Engineering Awards in 2023.
🤝 Anne-Sophie Gagné I knew right from the start of my career that I wanted to work on a construction site,” says Anne-Sophie. When the opportunity came up, I seized it.” Although the first few months were unsettling, this engineer built up a network of friends and developed excellent relationships with her client. “I was even invited to their Christmas party!”
For Anne-Sophie, her move to Sept-Îles was a learning experience. “What I like about work sites is that we can adjust our designs on the spot.” Her advice to young engineers? “When you're offered onsite experiences, jump on it.”
🛠️ Mark-Élie Boucher – Working on a job site has helped him develop his leadership skills and versatility. He remembers his first solo experience very well: “I responded to a service call for a circuit breaker problem, which was a tricky situation where I had to manage OHS issues, but I rose to the challenge.” On site, it's always a good idea to call upon more experienced colleagues—a BBA strength that clients recognize. At BBA, health, safety and the environment are part of our core values, guaranteeing the well-being of our teams and project sustainability.
In his opinion, the variety of situations requires great adaptability. “Life on site speeds up your career. You need to be curious, willing to learn and develop autonomy quickly.”
