Put your definition of singing in the comment section below. But notice two things: 1. You didn't really have a definition in mind yet you've been singing for a while. 2. Notice the variety of answers even though we're all defining the same thing. That's why singing is so unique! #singers #singingchallenge #voicelessons

Our voice is dancing with itself inside our mouth. Have you heard about overtones? The dictionary explains them like this: a musical tone which is a part of the harmonic series above a fundamental note, and may be heard with it. If you play an instrument that you blow into, like a flute, or the French horn that my father played, overtones is the most natural thing. By blowing into the mouthpiece with more intensity, the base note jumps up to the overtone, becoming a whole different note. This might seem like a mystical phenomenon, why should you care? The thing is, it is the overtones inside your mouth that creates the warmth of your voice, without them your voice is flat and distancing. It will be difficult for you to connect with others, let alone give a talk or leading a virtual meeting. No one wants to listen to voice like that. So how does it work? Every tone has a base tone and a scale of overtones that is part of the sound that we hear. Some instruments separate the overtones from the base tone, giving us an embodied experience of the sound. Like the Australian didgeridoo or the Tibetan singing bowls. We can do this with our own voice as well, letting the overtones come out of our mouth on top of the base tone. It's called overtone chanting and people around the world have been using their voice this way since the beginning of time. We can all do it, it's part of our physiology. When I found this vocal technique, it opened a whole new world. I thought to myself, this is the ABC of any voice work, everything else builds on top of this. Overtone chanting is working with the pure sound itself, it is the stage before even making a melody... This experience takes us into a different realm of being with ourself. Bringing the technique to a group transforms our presence on a cellular level, changing the way we relate to ourselves and each other. And oh, I almost forgot to mention - the sound of overtones dancing together in the room is like nothing else you have heard. DM me if you're curious about how I help teams achieve breakthroughs using the voice as a tool for transformation. #RightKindofLoud #voice #voicecoach #communication #impact #confidence #leadership #teambuilding #voiceandexpression
