Today, I’m excited to announce the release of my latest book, The Notorious GIG: A Creative Guide to Getting In Good as a Freelancer.
This is the book I needed at 21, when I was just getting into both advertising and journalism. I didn’t know the lingo, the rules, the titles or the process, but I knew I had the drive and will to succeed. I studied, practiced my craft and listened to everything and everybody that I felt would help me on this journey.
I received so much in the way of mentorship, guidance and older creatives “giving me the game” on how to move with integrity, push through limitations and make my vision a reality. Almost 20 years later, I’ve been able to build a lane, career and practice that my younger self would be proud of. Because of that, I wanted to give back and give my own version of that guidance, encouragement and practical knowledge to the new and current generation of creatives.
I came up in the culture of hip hop. It taught me a lot, but most notably it showed me how to recognize my unique creativity and understand that the world needs it. So I wrote a book in a way I hadn’t seen it done previously. And now I offer it to you, as a contribution, as a reference, and as a tool to help you realize your vision. Today is a special day for me, and my 21 year-old self. Thank you for sharing it with me.
