🌟 Unleashing Revenue Power: A Blueprint for Empowerment 🌟 This year, while I couldn't physically attend the Black Enterprise Women of Power Summit, the virtual experience brought me an unforgettable moment of clarity and inspiration. I'm compelled to share a story that epitomizes the essence of support among women and the transformative power it holds in unleashing our revenue potential. Judy A. Smith, the powerhouse Founder & CEO of Smith & Company and the real-life "Olivia Pope," shared her journey, weaving through the highs and lows of her illustrious career. Yet, it was during the audience Q&A that a moment of pure magic occurred. A financial advisor stood, her voice filled with both pride and hope, detailing her credentials and her ambition to connect with high-net-worth clients. Judy's response? "Call me after this; I'll help you and introduce you to some people." No wavering, just a direct offer of support and empowerment! This is the embodiment of how we, as WOMEN, need to champion one another. Not with mere words of encouragement, but with actionable support that positions each other for success. Judy didn't just listen; she offered a gateway, a tangible step towards opportunity for a fellow woman in her field. The spirit and energy Judy exuded, the empowerment she instilled with every answer, was a testament to the strength we harness when we lift each other up. It's a vivid reminder that in 2024, our intentionality in supporting one another isn't just beneficial; it's essential. As we move forward, let's use Judy's example as our beacon. How do you view your friends? Do you view them based on their past? Or do you view them based on their future? I've done a shift here. When I meet others, I no longer focus primarily on their past. Instead, I focus on their future. Why? Because we all have endless potential. But many people believe that their past dictates their future. And that's simply not true. Moreover, it's not that common to get questions like "What do you truly dream of?". But I believe these are the kind of questions that lead to inspiring and uplifting conversations. When I did this shift, I started to wonder why not more people talk with others about their future. And I realized that it's because most people view themselves based on their past. And our relationship with ourselves always influence our relationships with others. So if you also want to do this shift, I encourage you to stop viewing yourself based on your past. And instead start viewing yourself based on your exciting future. P.S. Day 2 of Women Lead Change did not disappoint! We started the day with our mayor and Women Lead Change CEO, Tiffany O'Donnell, leading a Q&A session with Ginny Rometty, the first women to head IBM as CEO and author of Good Power: Leading Positive Change In Our Lives, Work, and World. There were so many great nuggets of knowledge that came from both of these amazing women including a discussion on how fear is a muscle we strengthen as we continue to face it, Ginny’s experience with imposter syndrome, and her passion around the one ten program that aims to close the opportunity gap for black talent. Then Morra Aarons-Mele, author of Anxious Achiever, talked about how anxiety shows up in our life, work, and relationships and how we need a mind shift change to overcome our anxiety and succeed. McKenna Sweazey, author of How To Win Friends and Manage Remotely, walked us through how to have digital empathy. Working in remote teams means we work differently, but we can still be successful as long as we (1) start with self and bring our best, positive emotions to the team, (2) give space for context and relationship building, not just work, and (3) pay attention to identify patterns; if your coworker’s acting differently, something might be wrong. We ended the day with Jen Hatmaker getting vulnerable with us. Sometimes life throws us unbelievably difficult curveballs that knock the wind out of us. In those cases we need to (1) invite in safe people and let them lift us out of the deep, dark waters and get us safely to shore, (2) take radical care of ourselves (meditate and get really serious about our health) or else our bodies will shut down, and (3) believe in hope and chase it down like a hunter. But not with toxic positivity. We are allowed to have our feelings. Plus there was a great breakout session with Jackie Pelland from Slingshot25 on how leaders can Stop Killing Accountability. Jackie showed us 9 ways we kill accountability in our teams and how we can stop. Be clear on expectations, address molehills before they become mountains, have empathy, and sometime we just need to shut up and let people run with their ideas. I’m extremely thankful I had the opportunity to attend this year’s conference and am excited to take all I’ve learned and apply them at work. Such great lessons from a phenomenal panel of inspirational women!

I’m going to p!ss some people off today‼️ As I delve into a topic that might ruffle some feathers, it's a conversation that needs our attention. Why are we still celebrating and boasting on media platforms about events, conferences, stages, arenas, workshops, etc… that showcase little to no diversity? It is crucial to acknowledge that representation matters, and it's something that hasn't gone unnoticed. WE SEE YOU 👁️👁️ Recently, I came across a headline from Fortune Magazine that left me speechless -which by the way is hard to do. It read: "What a strange tale: Tech Conference was canceled after execs flee report of fake women speakers." The phrase "What a strange tale" caught my eye. What exactly was strange in this tale? Was it the fact that organizers fabricated women speakers, or was the strangeness in getting caught? Recent media attention outlining “the first…” is a stark reminder that we need to reflect on our actions and choices. As we navigate the landscape of conferences, workshops, and events, let's strive for authenticity, transparency, and genuine commitment to diversity. It's not just about ticking boxes; it's about fostering an inclusive environment where everyone's voice is heard and respected. This is your CALL TO ACTION: I encourage you to read the article and share your thoughts. Let's open up a dialogue about how we can collectively contribute to creating spaces that truly embrace diversity and inclusion. The first step is acknowledging the issues at hand. THERE'S SOO MANY DICKS! Seriously: did you know that men named Richard, Rick, or Dick (Dicks) outnumber women and diverse groups on public company boards? It's time to Change the Board Game. There are too many Dicks and not enough of everyone else. We combed through each board of directors of U.S. based companies on the NYSE and NASDAQ, all 36,957 existing board members across 4,429 publicly traded U.S. companies. The data is astounding: 🔍 There were 566 men named Richard, Rick, or Dick (Dicks) serving on these public company boards. 🔍 Black women and Asian women barely outnumber men named Dick, with only 806 Black Women, 774 Asian Women. 🔍 There were only 283 Hispanic Women on these same boards, only half the number of “Dicks”.
