India is in the midst of a transformative era. The country’s public cloud services market grew to $3.8 billion during the first half of 2023, and it is expected to exceed $20 billion in cloud spending over the next three years [1]. With more than 84% of large organizations adopting SaaS applications and 53% of enterprises increasing their adoption of cloud-native services such as containers and Kubernetes over the last two years, the country’s cloud adoption is on pace to create 14 million new jobs by 2026 

The financial services sector is the one that has most jobs which AI could possibly take over. Banking and insurance carry out nearly 2/3 of all works which are highly automatable or augment able by AI says Accenture. This is above the economy-wide average of 40%. The World Economic Forum points out that approximately a quarter of all jobs will change in the next half decade.

Takeaways from $MS CIO survey. These studies are so high-level it is sort of like looking at the sky to make weather predictions. Nevertheless… Highlights -Spending intentions for the year were consistent w/ Q1 survey. Software leading the pack at 3.6% yy growth but was an increase in expectations to potentially decrease budgets from here (ie downside risk to budgets). -It is taking longer to get AI projects into production (see exhibit). 25% expect first project to be in production in 2H24. -AI was top choice as far as being largest area of spend increase – mitigated by it was only selected as a top priority by 16% of survey participants. -AI impact still very early – most seeing minor impact today as they explore the tech. Nothing groundbreaking as far as intentions – adopt CoPilots to boost productivity, contact center productivity, customer support, etc. -$MSFT biggest beneficiary of GenAI spending by far [Open.AI?], then $AMZN, then $CRM. 68% plan to use O365 Co-pilot within the next year, and 40% plan to buy Github Co-pilot -IT projects most likely to be cut included strategy consulting, HR software, collaboration software and CRM applications [pretty interesting as these are usually sturdy areas of budget investment – wonder if AI exploration deprioritizing them for now]. 20% of respondents said funding AI projects from software bucket. -CIOs estimate 40% of workloads are in public cloud increasing to 46% by year-end and 56% by end of 2026 (so less than 20% annual growth).
