Depending on the day, I'm either terrified or optimistic about the future of technology. All that is constant is the weight of the belief that what designed today must consider its ethical implications down the line, and prioritize that over profit. Right now there is ample space for dreaming up what our future could look like, and it's the responsibility of designers and engineers working on these new technologies to consider what comes next for humanity. Rather than suggesting vaguely to "imagine" what we could do with our time if we're freed from menial tasks, tech giants should be balancing their heavy focus on profitability and "progress" equally with efforts considering what the road map to that reality actually looks like. How do we make room for new types of jobs? How do we shift our education programs to provide for a shift in roles? How do we empower people who have spent their lives and supported their families working these "menial" jobs, how do we keep them employed?? How does the technology work as part of that support system for the future of humanity? How do we use technological "progress" to veer away from the destructive, violent path of neoliberal capitalism that benefits few towards something more sustainable/regenerative/healthy for all of us and the earth? “OPEN TO WORK”. During 2023 the Tech industry is doing a big shift. From “Industry” view to “Innovation technology platforms” with AI as a clear example. I see all this green labels with “Open to Work”, and my first reaction is: I expect more like: “OPEN or READY to IMPACT”. World is changing, we need to change too. I have been a corporate professional for 30 years, I loved my carrier but today I can say, that as a Business man I have made more IMPACT in 6 months than in all my previous years. Enjoy your life, be bold, make IMPACT.

We often look upon others in a sense a disdain while looking at ourselves in a sense of pity simultaneously. How is that you say? Well, many of us have dreams on how we want to live and what our careers will look like but for whatever reason, we convince ourselves that it wasn't meant to be while needing someone else to be the target of our anger and derision because they became the dreams that we wanted. We tell ourselves that the corporate gig isn't the thing for us or that this career requires too much of us and its not worth it. The problem with that thinking is that we see someone living the dreams that we want and if we would take the chance to step into that world without the preconceived notions, we would find that most of the time we belong there too. Anything that gives a lot is going to require a lot whether that is your career, health, finance, relationships or dreams. An even swap can never be a swindle. Ok Douglas, what's the moral of the story? Get to the point! I had the pleasure to attend another Tech networking/learning event and the more I sat in the room, the more I began to feel like I belong IN THIS TECH SPACE. I won't lie, for a quick second after hearing some of the career paths that some of the other attendees were in, I had a quick shudder of fear but you start shaking hands and talking to people with no judgement you quickly find that they are trying to figure out how they can be successful. They may have the same fears and feelings of inadequacy but instead of letting that be the obstacle that makes them run away, it becomes the opportunity that help them grow in confidence knowing that they are not alone. At the Advanced Technology Development Center I attended a workshop entitled: Innovation in Healthcare led by Shade' Reid DNP, CPNP-PN,MSN. She is engaging and warm and just the simple conversation with her as I was the first person in the room made me feel like I was already an entrepreneur in the healthcare tech space. She covered a litany of topics with ease and I gained the understanding that the tech space is more like a tech galaxy or universe. There is an opportunity for anyone who is willing to learn the particular tech disciplines and let the healthcare world know that you are here to serve. It is mind blowing all of the facets of society that technology is impacting but most of all, it is mind blowing that I only had to walk into the room and introduce myself. I belong in the tech space or any space that I desire and I don't have to "sour grapes" a situation to cover for my fears to not try. As I gain steam moving forward and really get into networking opportunities, my next task to improve on is taking people up on their offers to help me when they give me their information and tell me to reach out to them. I'm sure that is going to leave me speechless and if you know me, that's a very hard thing to do.
