This is a great read for possible employments of a Civil Affairs Task Force(CATF). This comes at a time where our military transitions away from counter-terror and counter-insurgency. There’s a high likelyhood our nation’s next big fight will be against near-peer adversaries as coalitions are formed to counter the west. If the Russo-Ukraine conflict is the blueprint, the CATF will be critical in safeguarding civilians, and critical infrastructure from both friendly and enemy military operations.

#Myanmar: Since launching Operation 1027 on 27 October 2023, the Brotherhood Alliance, alongside anti-coup forces, has made some of the most significant territorial gains since the 2021 coup, seizing military and police positions in Chin, Rakhine, northern Shan, and Mandalay. Failing to suppress Brotherhood gains, the military has turned to indiscriminate airstrikes and artillery shelling on civilians. Nonetheless, Operation 1027 has given momentum to other armed groups across the country, representing the most significant threat to the military junta since the 1 February 2021 coup. Ripit, thanks for the post and the really fantastic insight. As the Department struggles to find resources to fund the modernization required to win in competition against the PRC, and meet all of the rest of the 2022 NDS objectives, the Reserve Component presents a unique and reversable means of preserving force structure at a fraction of the cost and reinvesting those resources into modernization and readiness. This is particularly true of the Air National Guard front line units that maintain the exact same readiness levels and response times as their Active Component counterparts but do so at 1/3 - 1/2 the cost. Now is the time to make the shift and harvest those resources to reinvest into modernization. The Reserve Component now has a much more experienced work force than the Active Component and has proven that it can retain these members (85% retention rate) to 20 years and beyond. It is time to stop looking at the Reserve Component as a bill payer and start looking at it as opportunity space.
