It is Black History Month, and I especially enjoyed writing this blog on our Black American owned businesses in federal contracting! #blackhistorymonth #governmentcontracting #govcon
In celebration of Black History Month, we took a deep dive into Black-owned businesses in federal contracting. In FY 23, 5,371 these companies secured $9.99B, with Ranger Land Systems Inc., Medical Place, Lazarus Energy Holdings, Apogee Engineering, and VAE Inc. in the top 5. Defense agencies including the Army, Air Force, DoD, Navy, and DLA stand out as top agencies awarding business to Black-owned businesses. We applaud the achievements of these businesses, but we must strive to increase not only the dollar amounts awarded but also the number of participating companies. #BlackHistoryMonth #BlackOwnedBusiness #FederalContracting https://lnkd.in/eb2YafnB

Something I find super interesting about Fedmine's platform is the ability to see (in real time) how many federal contracts are being awarded to minority-owned businesses. While this analysis is top of mind this month, it's important to review these metrics throughout the year, ensuring that federal agencies are awarding contracts to a diverse set of contractors.

SOF comes in all shapes and sizes
As we celebrate #WomensHistoryMonth, we recognize the legacy of service within our Special Operations enterprise and in our Nation’s military. Women have supported conventional and irregular warfare missions since the Revolutionary War and stood out with distinction in the Office of Strategic Services through resistance efforts during World War II. Women proudly serve today across our #SOF formations and continue to forge new paths in leadership. They have also taken on combat roles that have emerged across the Department of Defense and in our most elite organizations. We are more effective and lethal because of the service of our women #teammates.

ATTENTION INDUSTRY!!! In the military, Warrant Officers play a critical role in technical expertise, leadership, and operational effectiveness within their respective armed forces. If your organization is looking for an “honest broker”, consider former Warrant Officers as your skilled advisors, navigating complex problems with fairness and objectivity. They will be the ones who challenge prevailing opinion for the sake of debate and intellectual exploration, to break the status quo mold and nurture growth.

This was a great event for so many reasons. In our industry, we hear about rapid changes A LOT, but I left the event with a sense that the trajectory is increasing at an unprecedented rate. All of my take-aways were based on this: ▶ In the Great Wealth Transfer, it’s expected that between $60 and $84 trillion will be transferred from boomers to their heirs between now and 2045 (with a substantial portion occurring by next year), ▶ Rapidly increasing mental capacity concerns have trustees considering the need for established, in-office, mental health training, ▶ Rapid changes in are also occurring in the Middle East, with the next generation of wealth owners moving towards more westernised approaches to wealth management within families. Really interesting conversations also around the use of foundations as opposed to trusts and other alternatives, and the prospect of mandatory ESG in trust structures. Richard Shirreff bought the house down with his keynote on building resilience in businesses, drawing on the current geopolitical landscape to present his step- plan. Thank you to Mourant, Katie Hooper Stephen Alexander for a compelling, fascinating day. #GreatWealthTransfer #Mourant #Jersey #ChannelIslands
Thank you to everyone who attended our annual Trusts and Private Wealth Forum in Jersey on Tuesday. The event covered discussions on topical issues facing the sector, including de-coupling mental capacity, fiduciary decision making, and innovative uses of foundations, alongside recent case updates. The 2024 line-up featured speakers from 3PB Barristers, Macfarlanes, R&H Trust & Corporate, RBC, Stewarts, Sullivan & Cromwell LLP, VISTRA, and Withersworldwide, concluding with a thought-provoking keynote address from Sir Richard Shirreff, former NATO Commander and British military chief. Thank you to our sponsor RBC for supporting the event. Look out for our upcoming top takeaways from the panels.

It’s always humbling listening to Gen. Mattis speak. This is an unbelievably relevant presentation that shouldn’t be overlooked. Worth the listen for anyone interested. To my buddies leading NROTC programs, OSOs, or anyone with the ears of future military officers — I am posting for reach and (~mandatory) exposure. Points on critical thinking & literacy in history are essential to leadership in the current and future operating environments. https://lnkd.in/gFyYppk9
Featured Speaker: General James Mattis, USMC (Retired), Secretary of Defense, 2017–19
