Congratulations to Team Ex-Ray vision for winning the VRARA special challenge for best XR application at the 2023 Armed Forces Jam. Well done! WATCH THE VIDEO. In 48 hours this team created a working application to visualize electro-magnetic spectrum (EMS) to improve cyber security using off-the-shelf tools like Unity! The US Department of Defense CIO John B. Sherman identified EMS as one of the priority and his team reached out to the gaming industry to collaborate. Vernita D. Harris and her team have been responsible for leading this initiative and Unity is proud to support this. The commercial off the shelf technology EXISTS TODAY to fully visualize and simulate EMS of any type provided the physics models are available. However there is little progress being made to create synthetic simulation systems for the end user. WHY? Because there are many large contractors and large research labs that want to keep the hundreds of millions of dollars flowing to them to keep trying to solve problems that have already been solved by industry. Systems like AFSIM, SIMDIS and many others have already been integrated into 3D game engines! Check out Battlespace Simulations, Inc. Game Design Document: "Escape" Game Title: Escape Genre: Action-Adventure Environment: Inside Underground Tunnels Story In an underground city, the group "Escape" has been trapped in the lost tunnels of a military organization. Players, by choosing unique avatars, must navigate through this complex and perilous environment, escaping the pursuit of military operatives. Game Objectives Escape the Tunnels: Players must find their way out of the lost tunnels by creating hidden passageways and utilizing the unique skills of their avatars. Intelligence and Collaboration: Intelligent planning is crucial to prevent bomb explosions, and collaboration with other players is essential for constructing safe routes. Online voice communication is available for players. Limited Time: A countdown timer adds pressure, increasing the excitement and tension as players face challenges or solve new levels. Key Elements of the Game Hidden Tunnels: The ability to create tunnels and establish alternative routes for escape. Diverse Avatars: Players can choose from avatars representing humans, animals, demons, and even geometric shapes, each with unique skills. Last week's gaming roundtable at #ces2024 was filled with so much insight that I'm bursting at the seams to give you a proper round-up, and whilst thats in the works, I wanted to share some key takeaways to whet your appetites: 🤝 Invite more Collaboration... Gaming companies should feel more empowered to work together, no one should feel like they are operating in a singular manner and we invite more cross-collaboration between our partners. This doesn't mean relying on trade bodies to bring us all into one room once a quarter but working together regularly on things that are actionable and beneficial for all parties - age old saying, strength in numbers. 📓 Continue the Education... Keep educating and talking about gaming as if it's fresh and new, we're still in a development phase after all. There are more conversations around gaming happening and it's important that we keep identifying ways in which gaming can unlock more opportunities for brands and more revenue for game publishers. 🎮 Make it Fun (and Easy)... Gaming is fun, and talking about it should be too. Sometimes we take things too seriously in our industry and this is a great opportunity to make our day jobs enjoyable. Education + Fun = low barrier to entry; we don't need to use overly complex terms and acronyms to sound intelligent. 👹 Know Your (real) Competitors... Simarlay to the first point, our competitors are not our peers. Our competitors are other digital ad formats that users are exposed to on a daily basis. Media channels are constantly fighting for user's attention, so how do we maximise those core attentive opportunities, and show how gaming is a crucial part of the overall omnichannel marketing mix. 🔢 Get Creative with Data Go beyond standards and metrics that are defined by the industry - these are a great starting point but they don't do much but police gaming formats. There are some really unique and rich non-PII data points that we can take from gamers that paint a picture about gaming behaviour that we should make widely accessible and easy to understand.
