Gracias CDMX! 🇲🇽 I am so honoured to have put Estonia on a map in Mexico, sharing the beyond digital lifestyle of Estonians next to groundbreaking innovators like #Netflix and #lOreal. So what did I make out of this visit? 🤖 Abundance of technology. Not once did I worry about card payments not being available (which is the opposite from my previous conference destination in a supercountry in Europe 🙄. Guess yourself, I'm not throwing public shade). Or free wifi all over Mexico City- internet really being a human right there; in Estonia it's a private service, not provided by the Government. But also #AI. I felt it at America Digital how the expositors are hungry for AI. "While Europe is busy regulating AI, we have the chance to storm past them," one of my conversation partner said. 💯 on point. Let's regulate to protect, but use for growth opportunities. 🗺 Incredible differences from North to South, from one state to other. Mexico is a massive country. Administration differences and socioeconomic variety among the population are vast. Every State has certain liberty but also struggles to offer digital services in their area. To make across-nation transformation requires much bigger effort, mandate and collaboration. The struggle for Mexico (and big countries alike) is to figure out how to streamline and consolidate some services and building blocks (like nation-wide electronic ID, for example). That leads me to my third point. 👩⚖️ Newly elected Mrs President. In Claudia Sheinbaum's Cabinet of Ministers (sorry I stole this photo from my network, if you posted it, please come forward, I appreciate you sharing this), one seat will prioritise innovation. This could potentially be a Point Zero to launch Digital Mexico. 💥 Querétaro stole the spotlight. "Yes, Erika, Estonia is a small country of 1.3M in population with strong federal power, of course you can do digitalisation." No, YOU can do it, too. Querétaro does it right now, having implemented Estonia's X-Road as the backbone of Digital Querétaro (check the article in comments ⬇) "What?! No way, it's just 2h drive from CDMX, and you're telling me they are collaborating with Estonia?" It's doable. Good luck to Sheinbaum in scaling her let's-do mentality from the Mayor of CDMX to whole country. Very excited to see what the Secretary for Science, Humanities, Technology and Innovation will put forward. 🤝 All in all, met great amount of authentic leaders wanting to improve their countries and willing to invest their skills to do so. Let Estonia serve as an example and a reminder of what is possible. But also a call to action to roll up the sleeves and do the hard work. 💪 But it all comes down to #mindset. If you think you CAN, you are right. If you think you CAN NOT, you are also right. Which team are you in? If you believe I can contribute, continue talking to me in the comments or DM 💭 Thank you Congreso Latinoamericano Tecnología y Negocios America Digital, Lesley Robles

Thank you Erika for sharing!. It's good to hear news from home from an outsider's perspective!. Added to the revamped Secretary of Science, etc, I'd add one more player that will be probably the most relevant player at the federal level. The new Federal Agency for Digital Innovation under Pepe Merino (https://x.com/PPmerino). He lead the original Agency for Mexico City; and i'm aware he was already looking into the Estonian digital ID back then in 2018. So i'm sure this project will be moving forward on a larger scale now!. Loads of opportunity for further cooperation between Mexico and Estonia.

#ErikaPiirmets, thank you for sharing your impressions about your awesome visit to Mexico. Our country is facing great challenges and opportunities. We expect responsibility, openness, and commitment under the leadership of Ms. Sheinbaum. Without a doubt, the first steps are being taken with the creation of the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Digital Transformation Agency led by José Antonio Peña Merino, a specialist in data analysis. However, this will not be possible without the active participation of the private sector. We all are responsible for making a digital Mexico possible by taking Estonia's experience and advice. Tervitused ja loodame, et külastate meid varsti!

I love the energy radiating from this post. Nice change from the usual LinkedIn humblebragging.
