We are finally back after a well deserved break! 🥷🏻🔥
Looking back at 2023 I am extremely proud of what we achieved, but cannot say it isn’t without mixed emotions. We started 2023 by announcing NIP Group, one of the largest esports mergers to date. What started as a total yolo from home-office cleaning up a mess in 2016 is now at:
1. NIP Group recorded significant revenue growth in 2023, and is on track to achieve profitability across the NIP Group in 2024. NIP as a brand has been profitable for some years. Numbers for 2023 will be public once audited.
2. NIP Group audience reached 107,000,000 followers across all channels, inc. China.
3. Nearly 300 people operate over six offices on three continents from Europe, South America to Asia.
4. 12 competitive teams across Ninjas in Pyjamas (PC/Console) and eStarPro (Mobile).
5. +10,000 livestreamers at our talent management business eStar Entertainment.
6. Two arenas/home-courts for LPL and KPL in Shenzhen and Wuhan operated by our event production company MAG Studios and DRAGON V. We also produced a wide range of third-party events unrelated to NIP.
7. Some epic productions completed as we established Shinobi Studios and look to continue building our content and platform capabilities in 2024.
8. Some monumental and incredible projects/news in the pipeline for first the half of 2024.
All fancy, probably impressive and flashy. But the truth is while I am happy with the results there is a mountain of things to improve. My biggest regret in 2023 was internal cultural friction as a result of scaling too fast, which forced us to slow down in the second half of the year as we recalibrated and prepared for what is next. We simply last focus and wanted too much. There is no one to blame for this and everyone did their best, but we learned the backsides of scaling too fast and doing way too many things the hard way. Walking it back was tough, but what impressed me is how fast we managed to walk it back (!), to recalibrate, and now I feel we are back on track with the right focus, people and speed as we enter 2024.
Lastly, we spent alot of time integrating our business on a global scale and have some more work to do, but I can’t help but feel optimistic about where we are going in 2024 and beyond. We have all the right pieces in place; the scale, a diversified business, a recalibrated structure and focus, we continue learning from our mistakes, increased investments to improve our teams and have several large things in the pipeline. As long as that continues to be the case and we show momentum, I can live with my regrets. Lastly, a big shout-out to every single one of my co-workers for making NIP what it is today, you are epic.
Keep an eye on us in 2024 as we are increasing our investments into our teams (CS2, LoL academies and new/other teams) in the pursuit for championship titles. My and everyone’s biggest goal for 2024 and onwards is winning trophies (!!!), and growing NIP Group! 🏆🥷🏻
