At Allianz we integrate diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) into our daily business operations to create an environment where all employees feel valued and are treated with dignity. Our work in promoting diversity and inclusion doesn’t stop when we leave the office. This Pride Month, we are excited to share that we are sponsoring the Pride House during the Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024, with the Allianz Global Pride Board members serving as volunteers. The Pride House is a celebration of LGBTQ+ inclusion in sports and a symbol of a caring space for all. LGBTQ+ inclusion is a cornerstone of our culture at Allianz. Our employee network for LGBTQ+ inclusion, Allianz Pride, consists of 27 local networks covering more than 50% of the workforce. It plays a crucial role in raising awareness of LGBTQ+ issues, providing support, and advocating for change. We’ve made a lot of progress toward LGBTQ+ inclusion in the workplace, in the world of sports, and in our wider communities – but there is still work to be done. As a mom, LGBTQ+ ally, and speaker, I can say without hesitation that my understanding of the world has evolved a lot over the years. As so many others have put it, when we know better, we can do better. That's why I was pleased to read about famed long-distance swimmer Diana Nyad, who has publicly shared that she's had a change of heart when it comes to the inclusion of transgender athletes in sports. In 2022, Nyad wrote an op-ed for The Washington Post in opposition to the inclusion of trans athletes in swimming. But now, nearly two years later, she tells Out Magazine: "I am today firmly on the side of inclusion. Trans women athletes deserve our utmost respect. I stand with them in the world of sports and in the fight for full equality for all trans people." Nyad's statement is a great example of something we all experience: changing our minds. As 2024 approaches, I hope we can all think about the power of acknowledging when we've learned new information that has opened our eyes. Read more about Nyad's story at the link in the comments. June marks the start of Pride Month and Pride is more than just a celebration—it's a call to action for advancing LGBTQ+ equality! Here’s a reminder of some action Leaders can take to support LGBTQ+ colleagues:  🌈  Sponsorship and Reverse Mentoring Career progression often hinges on sponsorship. Unfortunately, LGBTQ+ employees, especially trans individuals, are less likely to have sponsors/mentors. So seek out high-potential LGBTQ+ talent and leverage your influence to support their success. In turn, you will gain fresh perspectives and grow knowledge about challenges facing LGBTQ+ colleagues.   🌈 Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) Set up or join your company's LGBTQ+ ERG and see how you can help. Whether as an Executive Sponsor or an active ally, your involvement can drive meaningful change and provide a safe space for important discussions and celebrations. We will be proudly sharing what our Coalition Strategic Partners and Members are doing throughout the month to learn, celebrate and champion inclusivity in their working environment.
