Why not be the kind of leader that builds leaders of teams and teams of leaders? If you are more collaborative than command & control; if you want to develop talent and bring out the best in your people instead of nailing everything down from the top; if you don't self-identify with Genghis Kahn, Vlad the Impaler, and Dick Cheney, then you might appreciate this alternative route to great leadership. Or if you just want to advance from Situational Leadership (which should really be called "situational supervision") to world class participatory leadership, follow this path: Blanchard, Zigarmi, and Zigarmi, Leadership and the One Minute Manager (William Morrow 1985). [Good and practical introduction to situational leadership. The same L4 method is applied to managing teams in: High Performing Teams by Blanchard, Carew, & Parisi-Carew (William Morrow, 1990).] Jim Collins, Good to Great (Harper Business 2001), chapter 2, “Level 5 Leadership.” [Solid and famous introduction to “facilitative leadership.” Takes the traditional books on situational leadership up to the next level: from situational supervision to participatory and facilitative leadership.] Ronald Heifetz, Leadership without Easy Answers (Belknap Press, Harvard, 1994) and James O’Toole, Leading Change (Ballantine, 1996). [Advanced leadership; world class books that take participatory, facilitative leadership to the highest level—in a traditional/MBA kind of style.] And finally: Jim Collins & Jerry Porras, Built to Last (Harper Business 1997) [Brilliant descriptions of leading from behind the scenes and designing the organization to support employee & business success.] Peter Block, Community (Berrett-Koehler, 2008). [Block takes it up to the next level again using leading edge / progressive change & facilitation strategies. How to build and engage teams & communities for action. While effective in certain contexts, this approach may sometimes stifle innovation and limit employee engagement.   ✨ Servant Leadership: On the flip side, Servant Leadership puts the focus on serving others first. It's a transformative approach where leaders prioritize the well-being and development of their team members. I've seen firsthand the positive impact that this style of leadership can have on employee engagement, innovation, and overall performance. One aspect that stands out to me is her emphasis on enhanced employee engagement.
