There's nothing more intellectually attractive than a person who thinks for themselves. I'll aways have more respect for the confidence to bet on your ideas (and be wrong) vs. thoughtlessly parroting another's (and be right).

Agreed - and the conversations are so much more engaging with this person. Much more enjoyable and thought provoking. I love it when hours after I've walked away from these types of interactions I still find myself recalling and revisiting the conversation.

A behavior I like to foster in my team is.... "With respect and care, offer your contrary opinion." When asked what we should do... I turn it around... "What do YOU think we should do?"
