A 4-year-old child has experienced and taken in 50x more information from their surroundings than the largest AI language models (LLMs) have been trained on (Yann LeCun). Isn’t that incredible? To give you an idea of how massive that is, imagine trying to read all that information – it would take a human 200K years to go through it all! While AI models are incredibly powerful, they primarily learn from text. Text is a very narrow and limited way to understand the world. Unlike humans, who learn from a rich variety of experiences and sensory inputs, AI models are stuck with just reading words. This makes it harder for them to grasp the full complexity of the world. But here’s where it gets even more interesting. Even with these limitations, AI is making huge strides in localization. Here’s why AI is still a game-changer: 🚀 Speed: AI-powered translation tools can translate text up to 60x faster than a human. Talk about turbo mode! 📈 Accuracy: AI has improved translation accuracy by over 85% in the last few years. It's like having a grammar teacher who never sleeps. 💰 Cost-Effective: Implementing AI can reduce localization costs by up to 30%. So, what does this mean for your localization program? 1. Efficiency Boost: With AI handling the heavy lifting, human experts can focus on cultural nuances, and ensure your message resonates globally. AI does the bulk work, and you add the human touch. Partnering with an LSP that seamlessly manages both AI and human workflows makes it even better. 2. Consistency: AI ensures that terminology and style are consistent across all translations. No more worrying about whether “color” should be “colour.” It’s all streamlined. 3. Work-Life Balance: AI’s efficiency gives you more time to balance work and life. Whether it’s painting, mindfulness, or just enjoying a good book, you can finally breathe a little easier. So, while humans remain the best at processing nuanced and complex data, AI is an incredibly efficient tool to have in your arsenal. Keep learning, keep growing, and keep being curious. 🌟 #ai #llms #localization #innovation #efficiency

Demand for linguists is a function of regulations. People won't pay for translations unless they have to - AI or not. But if you can't beat them, join them. Using AI is the only way to stay relevant. The benefit is greater productivity, but only if you actually know how to use it. Until then, linguists will need the same protections as any other creator artist. Too bad there is no global linguist union. #justpayfordata

Here is why the FUTURE OF LINGUISTS will be BRIGHT BECAUSE OF AI 🔥🔥🔥⬇️ After the Industrial Revolution in the 19th century, and the Technology Revolution in the 20th century, we are now 2 years into the Intelligence Revolution of the 21st century! According to Satya Nadella, Microsoft CEO, we’re entering the second tier of AI transformation, which promises to redefine the technological landscape. AI is set to enhance natural language interfaces, reasoning, planning capabilities, and much more, bringing unprecedented capabilities to all industries, including the language industry. The ultimate goal for everyone is to leverage AI to fuel substantial economic growth, surpassing the achievements of both prior revolutions. So what does it mean for Localization? Here is my take: In the past, much of the content generated daily around the globe was left untranslated because of time and budget restraints. These restraints are disappearing with the advances in technology we are going through. The amount of content up for localization is therefore exploding. Yes, a lot of that content will be handled automatically by LLMs, nevertheless, the segment that requires human input is going to grow exponentially as well. 🎯 The role of human translators may evolve, but the demand for expert linguists will therefore continue to increase. What do you think? Are you dreaming of the possibilities, or do you remain skeptical?

Instant Translation via AI is here 🤯 In past, a couple of the challenges with all AI translation tools until now have been: 1- Latency For communication, we need instant translation. Although the latency (time taken to translate) of AI translation tools has been very low, for effective communication, it needs to be instantaneous. With this AI model, we are very close to achieving this. 2- Loss of context Translation is mainly focused on the words, but often what is said is lost in transit. In any communication, how something is said is important, not just what is said. So, this model can mimic your voice and talking style too (though not 100% but very close). This is very similar to ElevenLabs new feature, speech-to-speech, which can replicate the style of speaking, but not with the same voice or translate it. However, I am pretty sure ElevenLabs can catch up, as they already have all these features independently. All they need to do is connect all their different features in one go. Even their new model (still only in English) has very low latency. What Meta has done by releasing this to the public (though still not for commercial use) helps other startups in text-to-speech or translation technology to catch up quickly and build upon these advancements. I'm not a hardcore tech expert to predict how easy or difficult this will be, but I'm pretty excited about how this race will help us in the future to communicate with each other, without the barrier of languages. Great work by Meta. And if you know French, let me know how accurate the translation was. What do you guys think?
