Tomorrow and the day after, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak will hold the First Global AI Safety Summit aimed at fostering dialogue among corporations, government representatives, and scientists about novel risks from Artificial Intelligence. Despite its significant potential to shape the course of international #AI #regulation, there’s a growing concern that misplaced priorities and a narrow perspective may mar the summit. While the discourse focusing on the long-term safety of AI is undoubtedly important, I argue in my new commentary (#cepAktuell) for the Centrum für Europäische Politik, it should be contextualized within the realm of current competitive challenges in the AI ecosystem and prevailing biases of these systems. Ultimately, the participants of the Bletchley Park Summit should support a balanced and informed approach towards AI regulation that duly considers the present realities and future potentials of AI technologies, ensuring that regulatory discussions are not misguided by speculative fears of a dystopian AI future. Great day towards more clarity and steps for AI based systems. Now, next steps needs to be taken to bring clarity into the game of certification of thise systems.
