Alan Davidson’s Post

At NTIA, we’re in the midst of a historic mission to connect everyone in America to affordable, reliable high-speed Internet service. And it is not enough to expand access – we want people to be safe and thrive online.   But when it comes to our young people, we know there’s more we can do. As I travel the country, parents tell me that today’s online services are not working for their kids. Whether it is concerns about privacy, harassment and bullying, or threats to mental health – we have seen enough and heard enough to know we need to act.   That is what the White House Task Force on Kids Online Health & Safety is all about.   As co-chair of the Task Force, I joined leaders from the White House this week to hear directly from youth advocates, civil society, academics, and industry – and some terrific students – about the risks posed by social media, and how to mitigate those risks. I look forward to future listening sessions around the country in the coming months as we work to improve the experience of young people online. https://lnkd.in/eqVE92a3

Wall Street’s response to this week's Senate Judiciary hearing and Mark Zuckerberg’s apology was increasing Zuckerberg’s net worth by over 20%. What Wall Street is seeing is the advertising revenue around illegal drug sales on Meta’s properties, what kids are seeing is the availability of illegal drugs being sold on Meta, and what parents are seeing are death certificates. Wall Street and Silicon Valley are confident that Congress won't act on online child safety. However, the parents I sat beside during the hearing will not give up and will succeed in their fight against Silicon Valley. I would recommend you watch the below-linked video to see what our children are exposed to online and use the link within the video to contact your Member of Congress and urge them to pass the Online Child Safety Package immediately. https://lnkd.in/e8EPwidj

I hope NTIA will fix the Dark WHOIS issue that is putting consumer/child safety at risk, as stated by the Federal Trade Commission, and support Congressional efforts to fix the problem. https://see2do.info/icann73GACDNSPresentation

Such important work! I couldn’t imagine a better leader and advocate to have tackling this complex challenge. There is so much good, and bad, that can come from Internet access. And not everyone is capable of supervising their children in this very complex space. Thanks for leading this critical work!
