Perfect example of solving for a customer pain point, not innovation for #innovation’s sake. The founder is a physician and hated spending >2 hours daily on summarizing his day’s work, as required by law. This burden is driving people to leave the profession. So, Abridge built an AI app to automate a lot of this admin work and summarization for docs and hospitals. Now, Abridge is blowing up, rightfully so! Their customers (doctors) call the product ‘magical’ and ‘life changing’. A few lessons here: - Starting from real customer pain points is a winning strategy - #AI can add enromous value by solving mundane problems (not every AI application needs to be futuristic) - People with deep experience in an industry can leverage not just their expertise, but their tactical experience with daily hassles, to build great ventures Congrats Shiv and team Abridge, well deserved! 237 Ventures MENA FINTECH ASSOCIATION https://lnkd.in/dwE6nfKJ

Trevor Nicks and I always talk about how your ML models are only as good as the data you use. Companies will need to have unique data to gain a competitive advantage. At Caravel Bio, we generate proprietary data using our genetically-encoded enzyme immobilization platform and feed that data into algorithms for a continuous feedback loop. A great article below by 2048 Ventures on their thesis on AI. *Food for thought: The spelling error made by ChatGPT is a commentary in itself on the fallibility of AI alone and the need for real-world validation. https://lnkd.in/gt6hipSa

So I came across this month-old article on #WSJ about AI startups and their struggle to get hands on data and build trust - https://lnkd.in/gg9P_Kif With #DataMint, we're flipping the script by empowering individuals to be a part of the data economy, sidestepping the awkward dance of data scavenging. Our users willingly share their data, which gives us a unique and growing data set, while the power of control and trust stays where it belongs—with the data owners. DataMint isn't just taking on these challenges, we're paving a fresh route in the data world. Let’s just say, we're shaking things up and we can't wait for you to see what's next... #AI #DataEconomy #Startups #DataPrivacy #DataRevolution

🚀🔊 Exciting News in AI Voice Technology! 🔊🚀 Hello, tech enthusiasts and everyday consumers alike! I'm here with a fascinating update that could change the way we interact with technology on a daily basis. Imagine a world where AI can talk to you, understand you, and respond almost instantly, just like a real human. Well, that future is closer than you might think! At the start of this year, AI-generated voices weren't able to keep up in real-time conversations. However, Joshua Browder, the CEO of the innovative AI legaltech startup DoNotPay, has witnessed a monumental leap in the capabilities of voice generation models. These advancements have made AI voices not only faster but incredibly realistic, paving the way for more natural and seamless interactions. Why does this matter to you? Imagine canceling a subscription or asking for a refund via a phone call facilitated entirely by AI, devoid of lengthy waits and cumbersome processes. This isn't a scene from a sci-fi movie; it's becoming our reality. Moreover, startups like Hume are taking things a step further by developing technology that can detect emotions in our voices, allowing AI to respond in emotionally appropriate ways. This blend of speed, realism, and emotional intelligence in AI could revolutionize customer service, making our interactions with tech more human-like than ever before. However, it's also wise to consider the implications of such technology, including the potential for more sophisticated misinformation and scams. But focusing on the positives, these innovations could greatly enhance the convenience and efficiency of our everyday tech interactions. What does this mean for the future? We're looking at a world where AI can understand and engage with us on a deeply personal level, making technology an even more integral part of our daily lives. The possibilities are endless, and I can't wait to see where this leads. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting journey into the future of AI communication. The era of talking to AI as naturally as we talk to each other is just around the corner! #AIRevolution #VoiceTech #FutureIsNow

2023 saw a significant decline in #venturecapital funding with only $170.6 billion injected into U.S. startups, down 30% from 2022 and 51% from 2021, according to PitchBook data. However, there was a bright spot as #generativeAI investment surged from $7.9B to $29.1B, a 268.4% increase in deal value. AI startups attracted one out of every three dollars invested in the U.S. last year, with the Bay Area receiving 49% of all AI capital. The increase in sophistication of large language models #llms has led to more applications being built that leverage those advancements in a way that is tailored to specific industries. The surge in investor interest in AI technology has been fueled by OpenAI's ChatGPT and other frontrunners like Anthropic. And like previous tech waves, its center of gravity in the U.S. lies in Silicon Valley, according to Carta data. Bay Area companies raked 49% of all AI capital—35x more than runner-up New York. Invariably, what is happening in the IT sector ITwiz editorial team reports 📣 www.itwiz.pl #technology https://lnkd.in/dGPrbf7Y

Someone had to say it. 🙌🏽 Among other news articles to drop recently, this is one I'm bringing out of the newsletter and straight to you. It's great to see a spotlight on an issue plaguing the AI Industry these days. It's AI being pushed as a standalone product rather than a critical feature of an actual product. Here's a bit of Product Fundamentals I've felt the need to hammer on: *FOCUS ON THE PROBLEM YOU'RE SOLVING!* If your AI model is not directly addressing a problem or making meaningful improvements in a way that an end user can interact with easily, you're not really offering a product. You're offering access-to-a-model-as-a-service. You're leaving a lot of value on the table. The article enabling my rant & my confirmation bias: https://lnkd.in/edHN82AY #AI #growth #startups #VentureCapital #newsletter
Companies keep trying to make AI a product, rather than a feature
