Here are my key takeaways from an amazing and insightful podcast on the future of product management by Marty Cagan and hosted by Lenny Rachitsky: - Understand your customers and users well by having "1st hand interactions" - There is a difference between developing a feature vs. solving a customer problem - Many-a-times PMs are doing more project management than product management - Product management is much more than just authoring stories at JIRA or administering backlog or conducting scrum ceremonies - Some key principles: -- Innovation is more important than predictability -- Learning is more important than failure -- Principles are more important than processes -- Demonstrating "real ownership" https://lnkd.in/g6TQSZp6 #productmanagement #products #customers #products #quality

Like Rome, building a successful product takes time and requires continuous learning and adaptation along the way. 📖 Value over Features: It's essential to shift focus from merely managing features to prioritizing outcomes. As PMs, we must ensure our solutions deliver both value and viability to both customers and the business. 💡 Continuous Discovery: Embrace the role of the "iron lady" with a steadfast commitment to vision validated through continuous discovery. This iterative approach leads to delivering solutions that truly resonate and generate value. 🛠️ The Art of Building: Mastery in product management hinges on the ability to build. From good to great, honing the craft of building transformative products sets top-tier PMs apart. In a world filled with evolving challenges, Marty Cagan's insights serve as a guiding light for product managers striving for excellence. Can knowing very little about your customers before you start building actually be an advantage? I've made my fair share of wrong assumptions about customers before, feeling overconfident in my knowledge. Next time you feel discouraged about not knowing enough about a customer segment, consider whether that might actually be an advantage to have fewer assumptions to unlearn. I'm excited to tune into this next episode and see what Katie Silver has to say to Rae Foote.
Katie Silver, Senior Product Manager at Atlassian, is this week's "On the Roadmap" guest. Hosted by Atlassian Creator Rae Foote, this episode explores how Katie moved into product management. 🙌 Subscribe to our YouTube channel, where we'll post the full-length episode tomorrow. https://lnkd.in/edwDBf59
