PRIORITIZATION is not about saying 'NO' 🙅♂️ to features; it's about saying 👉 'YES' to the right ones at the right time. Not all features are created equal. Prioritization is not merely about what comes first; it's about aligning your product's journey with strategic goals. This ensures that your roadmap isn't a mere list but a strategic pathway to success.

What are the most important factors to consider when orchestrating a product vision? 👁️🗨️ ⭕ Does the vision fit into the goals and values of the company? ⭕ The vision should be adaptable and be redefined at various points throughout the discovery and delivery phases. ⭕ The vision itself doesn't need to be over the top of complex, it just needs to be big enough to motivate people and make sure they are bought into the purpose of the vision. ⭕ You must be able to draw from the vision for all aspects of the product lifecycle. The roadmap, the backlog and the strategy must all stem from the vision. ⭕ The vision needs value to get buy in from stakeholders and customers. Does this vision benefit the business? Does this vision add value to the customers? These are just a few factors I have identified as essential, do you think there us anything else that should have a spot on this list?

Product prioritization frameworks and calculations are theoretically cool to discuss and flex your knowledge of product buzzwords, but they don't work all the time! These frameworks fundamentally ignore uncertainties in product development and don't encourage you to prioritize differentiating features. And no, RICE does not do that! Instead, prioritize based on vision, strategy, and understanding your customers. #ProductManagement #Prioritization #Vision #Strategy

They wanted to know how other product teams create their roadmaps. They asked me how I roadmap. I want to offer you a silver bullet, the perfect template to craft the perfect roadmap. I don’t think it exists. You will get the best results from your roadmap when you start to think about your roadmap as a product that your product organization ships internally. Roadmaps are specific communication tools that should be created for everyone engaged in the conversation. How would you create your roadmap differently if you considered it a product?

Content Marketing Manager @ LogRocket | Talks about #thoughtleadership, #product, #productmanagement, #techleadership, and #saas
“One roadmap doesn’t work for everybody, so you should have multiple versions…It’s crucial to come back and say, ‘Do I have a view that is going to resonate with all those different people I’m going to talk to?’...Sometimes, I end up with three versions: a traditional Gantt chart roadmap, a roadmap geared more to the finance folks and the board, and a roadmap focused on problems solved or outcomes. Some PMs will say, ‘Forget the feature roadmap, just do the customer-centric one.’ That’s a fine approach as well, but a lot of times people want that concrete ‘tell me what you’re going to build’ view.” I was fortunate to have the opportunity to connect with Nadya Duke Boone and get her insights on different approaches to simplify the complexity of product strategy, including using methods like creating different versions of the product roadmap for various stakeholders. Nadya also talked about leveraging “radical candor” to have difficult conversations, create space to do better work, and ultimately drive better outcomes. #ProductMangementLeadership #ProductStrategy #RadicalCandor Link in the 1st comment 👇

Product strategy and roadmaps should not be just fancy documents. They are tools to guide daily prioritization. The key purpose of a product strategy is to align team efforts with company goals. Without a strategy, effective prioritization becomes impossible. With a clear strategy, you can confidently say 'no' to distractions and 'yes' to real progress. https://lnkd.in/eCMttiEh #productstrategy

Why do product roadmaps often turn into static, dead documents? 💀 📅 Lack of Regular Updates - Roadmaps can quickly feel like outdated relics if not refreshed. 🔀 Misalignment with Strategy - A roadmap detached from the core strategy starts losing relevance. 🔍 Too Detailed or Too Vague - It's vital to strike the right balance; otherwise, a roadmap can overwhelm or lack clarity. 🚫 No Ownership - Without people driving it, the roadmap risks gathering dust. 🛠 Inflexible Tools - Rigid tools can inhibit the roadmap's ability to adapt to changes. 🌪 Misaligned Stakeholder Vision - The roadmap can get torn apart by conflicting stakeholder views. ⚠ Fear of Change - Teams might avoid updating the roadmap out of fear it signals indecision. But here's the thing... roadmaps can be brought back to life! Awareness of these pitfalls is the first step. Let's breathe life back into our roadmaps and ensure they're dynamic, relevant, and always driving value. 💡 What are your thoughts? #ProductManagement #DynamicRoadmapping
