#Helicopter formation flying during operational air #training comes with its own set of #risks, including: #Collision Risk The close proximity of helicopters in formation increases the risk of collision, especially in situations where visibility is reduced due to weather conditions or terrain. Loss of #SituationalAwareness Pilots may become overly focused on maintaining formation, leading to a loss of situational awareness regarding other aircraft, terrain, or obstacles. #HumanError Pilots may make mistakes in maintaining proper separation, altitude, or speed, leading to potential accidents. #Weather Hazards Adverse weather conditions such as gusts, turbulence, or poor visibility can exacerbate the risks associated with formation flying. #Communication Challenges Effective communication among pilots is crucial during formation flying. Miscommunications or failures in communication equipment can lead to misunderstandings and errors. #Training Experience Inexperienced pilots may not have the necessary skills to safely conduct formation flying, increasing the likelihood of accidents. #Fatigue Long training sessions or missions can lead to pilot fatigue, impairing judgment and reaction times. To mitigate these risks, thorough training, adherence to standard operating procedures (#SOP), effective communication, regular maintenance of aircraft, and careful monitoring of weather conditions are essential. Additionally, having experienced instructors or flight leaders overseeing the training can help minimize the risks associated with helicopter formation flying.

It's been 20 years since the first three #Eurofighter arrived at Morón air base in Seville, Spain. The fighters of the 11th Wing of the Spanish Air and Space Force are an example of national sovereignty and technological superiority. They have demonstrated this throughout these years, both on Spanish territory and in international missions. Since 2015, the Eurofighters of the 11th Wing have participated in 5 NATO Air Policing missions, protecting the Eastern Flank, both in the Baltic countries and in the Balkans. The pilots deployed to these missions have passed through the Eurofighter Training Center (ETC) of Morón Air Base that is proof of successful collaboration between the Ejército del Aire y del Espacio and the industry, led by Airbus Defence and Space. In this model, industrial companies engage in the initial and advanced training of pilots, as well as in ground instruction of training squadron pilots. The use of simulators in the ETC makes training fighter pilots not only safer but also more economical, and more sustainable. Watch this video of our Services team working hand in hand with the Spanish Air and Space Force at Morón Air Base. #Defence #DefenceMatters

Barrie Bardoe's history of Defence Australia military aviation, 1914 to 2022, is constructive and haunting. Relevant to anyone working in safety-critical industries, the book illustrates the often-fateful lag between organisational decisions and their consequences, exemplified with the grim 1970s through 1990s which saw a period of significant accidents with root causes stemming from decisions made years before. 'The Cost of Doing Business' also highlights the eternal importance of aircrew proficiency & currency, standardised airworthiness & operating practices, robust test & acceptance processes, and a safety-minded & risk management culture. Best of all, it is free to download. #airforce #aviation #aviationsafety #pilottraining #aerospace
