Stanford MBA/MS Candidate | Climate Tech | Industrial Decarb | Philanthropy

A few weeks ago, I graduated from Stanford University with an MBA! Let's rewind to June 2017. For #ImmigrantHeritageMonth, the Austin American-Statesman interviewed me. 7 years ago, I was a few weeks out from my family's final asylum hearing. The end of the road after living in the US for 24 years. If the case didn't go our way, I would be deported from the only country I know. 7 years ago, I told the reporter if we won our case I'd like to go to school somewhere like Stanford to get my #MBA. Luckily we won. A year later, I became the youngest immigration program officer in American philanthropy. I funded campaigns that protected 2 million immigrants including #DACA recipients. And 4 years after that, I started at Stanford University Graduate School of Business to transition into a new career as an operator and future entrepreneur in climate tech. In the Fall, I'll return for a few months to finish my joint degree at the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability. In business school, you rush from one thing to another. But in the last few months it clicked for me how long the arc of our career, lives, and relationships are. As an undocumented person, I never thought about life outside of 2 year cycles of permit approvals. I still face challenges such as the legal limits to international travel as an asylee. But I know I’ll continue to make big moves for years to come. I don’t care to be humble here. I am not telling you this because it's a shiny story of resilience about another brown immigrant who grew up in poverty. The story here is, I only make big moves. I only work on hard problems. You should not underestimate people like me when I set a goal. Whatever it is, however long it takes, whatever the distance to cover is... I'll get it done.

Congrats Ainee! It’s been an honor working alongside you for the short period we had together but if I learnt anything from you it’s the power of your words. When you say I will, you do!
