Thrilled to share my latest thought leadership piece, crafted during my time at The Carbon Trust, focusing on Offshore Wind! 🌊✨ In this article, we delve into the crucial role of clearly defined targets and long-term commitment from governments in driving investments and industry growth. Here are the key insights (in my own language): 1️⃣ Ambitious targets drive higher deployment rates, as demonstrated by the UK's success story. 2️⃣ Targets need concrete action plans outlining processes and responsibilities to ensure progress. 3️⃣ Ambitious targets without coherent action plans can lead to stagnation, as seen in the case of France. 4️⃣ Collaborative initiatives are instrumental in scaling the market and expediting project development. This piece concludes that government targets significantly influence actual installations in six maturing and emerging offshore wind markets. Special thanks to my wonderful co-author, Christina Starost, and the incredible team— Megan Smith, Caroline Coccoli, and Chloe St George —for their invaluable contributions! ! 🙌 #windenergy #renewableenergy

On the back of Floating Wind Days, David Linden, shares the status of global floating offshore wind targets and key takeaways from our recent survey, developed in partnership with Norwegian Offshore Wind and WORLD FORUM OFFSHORE WIND (WFO). The #floatingwind industry generated huge targets and expectations in 2022 and most notably awarding 22.4GW of floating lease capacity. However, the outlook has been challenged, and two years on, it is time to consider how the future of the floating wind industry is now being perceived. 💡 We published the second policy briefing of The Carbon Trust's "Designing an effective offshore wind market" series aiming to help policymakers lay a foundation for successful #offshorewind development at an early stage of market formation. 📃 This briefing emphasises the significance of clearly defined #targets and other indications of long-term commitment, such as favourable policies and #incentivemechanisms, from governments can help to send strong signals to investors and developers. Our key take-aways: 1. Targets spur on installations, and ambitious targets are strongly linked to higher deployment rates. 2. Targets must be followed by plans that clearly define processes and responsibilities. 3. Ambitious targets without coherent action plans can lead to stagnation. 4. Collaborative initiatives can support market scale and accelerate build-out. ❗ However, targets shouldn't be set in stone. Especially in recent times of uncertainty, it is important to monitor and regularly review the targets and underlying strategy to be able to respond to changing market conditions flexibly where necessary. 👋 Feel free to reach out to me if you'd like to discuss this briefing or the wider series in more detail. #offshorewind #oswpolicy #renewableenergy

Tim Eyles insights on adopting a risk-based holistic approach in the offshore floating wind industry are invaluable. As the market expands, operators will undoubtedly face both opportunities and challenges. However, with careful planning and a focus on reducing operation and maintenance costs, improving long-term margins, and extending asset life, we can harness the full potential of floating wind and pave the way for a more sustainable and powerful future in renewable energy. #offshore #floatingoffshorewind #floatingwind #infrastructure #opportunities Lisa Bland Jonathan Cross Blair Campbell Andy Norman Marcello De Guida Florence Kosmala Tom Fulton Sam Hanton Jason Clark Bernhard Bruggaier Barry Parsons
Tim Eyles, Vice President of marine energy and infrastructure services company Acteon Group Ltd., explains how a risk-based holistic approach can reduce operation and maintenance costs, improve long-term margins and extend asset life. The opportunities and challenges for floating wind operators The global offshore floating wind market is set to expand, and with this, there will be numerous challenges and risks for operators pursuing new projects. According to one research study, floating wind capacity is forecast to reach more than 25 GW by the middle of the next decade, from just under 60 MW today. #offshore #floatingoffshorewind #floatingwind #infrastructure #opportunities Lisa Bland Jonathan Cross Blair Campbell Andy Norman Marcello De Guida Florence Kosmala Tom Fulton Sam Hanton Jason Clark Bernhard Bruggaier Barry Parsons

Some fresh views on the #offshorewind size race... Fascinating details are emerging from France's breakthrough AO5 #floating wind tender, which give an insight to industry forecasts from bid submissions from just Q4 2023: - Four candidates indicated semi-submersible steel floaters based on 20 to 22.5 MW unit capacity; - One candidate indicated a semi-submersible concrete floater based on 24.5 MW unit capacity; - One candidate indicated a concrete barge floater based on 20.7 MW unit capacity. And within this, one candidate presented letters of support from two turbine manufacturers indicating commercial turbines of more than 24 MW by 2028. Marseille is on the doorstep of the upcoming French floating offshore wind tender (AO6) and subsequent farm extensions (AO9). Hence it was an ideal location for the FOWT Conference last week 🇫🇷 France is targeting 18GW of offshore wind capacity by 2035 and 40GW by 2050. It was great to be back in France again to discuss with clients, partners and suppliers how we can take advantage of the significant opportunity that lies ahead, and how the French tender system de-risks project development by offering seabed, revenue support and grid connection as part of the tender package. There is a real sense of excitement about the prospect of significant floating wind deployment in the country and the role that our floating platform, #PelaFlex, can play to help France, and other markets in the Mediterranean and beyond, reach their potential. Find out more about how we make the rapid deployment of industrial scale offshore wind possible 👉 https://bit.ly/3xZrW0J #FloatingWind #OffshoreWind #France #FOWT24
