This month is Social Work Month! We would like to recognize the social workers in BHS and thank them for their contribution to the community. We asked our social workers: What made you go into Social Work? I was drawn to social work by a desire to help people and make a positive impact in their lives. The opportunity to support individuals and communities facing challenges and empower them to overcome obstacles resonated with me on a personal level. What does Social Work mean to you? To me, social work means helping others, advocating for fairness, and making a positive difference in people's lives. It's about supporting those in need, standing up for justice, and working to create a more equal and caring society. Social work is all about empathy, respect, and making sure everyone has the opportunity to live a better life. What are your favorite/proudest moments/accomplishments working at BHS? Some of my favorite and proudest moments at BHS include successfully meeting program goals and securing curriculum. These accomplishments not only demonstrate my dedication and proficiency in program management but also reflect the positive outcomes and impact on the individuals we serve. Seeing noticeable improvements in the lives of our community as a whole is incredibly rewarding. What would you tell any interns/prospective applicants thinking about applying to BHS? To interns or prospective applicants considering applying to BHS, I would emphasize the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others through dedicated and impactful work. Working at BHS provides a supportive and dynamic environment where you can grow both personally and professionally, honing your skills and contributing to positive change in the community. #SocialWorkMonth #WorkingTogether

Happy Wednesday, everyone! If there's one reason to look forward to the midweek at ESS, it's our weekly new employee orientation!!!! Yes, every single week, I have the incredible opportunity to welcome new faces to our team, guiding them on their first steps towards making a significant impact in the world of education. I am beyond grateful to work for a company that resonates so deeply with my own values. Work-life balance, community involvement, providing meaningful employment, and contributing to the enrichment of our youth's education – these are not just ideals we talk about; they are the essence of what we do at ESS! Being part of the #ESSFamily means more than just having a job; it's about being part of a mission-driven effort to enhance educational experiences across the country. Every orientation session I host at #SCWorks is a reminder of our commitment to not just getting people back to work but doing so in a way that supports our communities' educational goals and well-being. So, if you're looking for a role that offers more than just a paycheck – one that offers the chance to contribute, grow, and make a real difference – I hope to see you at one of our upcoming orientations! Together, with partners like SC Works, we're not just filling positions; we're empowering educators, supporting schools, and making every day in the classroom count. Here's to Wednesdays, to new beginnings, and to the incredible journey that lies ahead with ESS!! #WorkLifeBalance #CommunityImpact #EducationJobs #NewBeginnings #ESSFamily #SCWorksPartnership ESS

🌟 Discover first hand what the Job Start scheme holds with insights from our JP Corry team members, Hannah and Marcus! Dive into the video below for an inside look and uncover the opportunities awaiting you. #JPCorry #JobStart #OpportunityAwaits #CareerGrowth
It was great to see over 550 young people visit 2 Royal Avenue yesterday for our JobStart Meet the Employer event, where they had the chance to meet over 30 employers with JobStart opportunities in a wide range of roles. Thanks to a partnership between ourselves and Department for Communities, the free event, attended by our Lord Mayor and the Minister for Communities Gordon Lyons, also provided useful information on our Employment Academies, self-employment, the Gateway to Choices (G2C) service and the Condition Management Programme. It was all about helping young people in Belfast who are at risk of long-term unemployment or struggling to get a job - a key priority in our Belfast Agenda – and part of our employability and skills programme, #TakeTheNextStep. The diverse roles on offer spanned administration, childcare, customer service, distribution, health and social care, hospitality, logistics, marketing, sports coaching, transport, videography, youth work and warehousing. Watch this short video with Hannah Quirey, HR Advisor, JP Corry and Marcus Harvey, a JobStart graduate employed by JP Corry, to see what they thought. Adult Employment and Career Development. Employment Support & Futures Specialist and Researcher, Careers Guidance Professional
The Social Care sector is one of the few that remain where you can join at an introductory level and build your skills over time. There is HUGE demand in this sector which is expected to grow & grow, and as a consequence, is also a career area you can follow for your whole working life. Not many employment sectors you can say that for anymore. Also, remember that there are numerous roles within care, not just the obvious. If you take a closer look you might be surprised. #socialcare #careeropportunities #healthcare
A career in care may be challenging but is so rewarding 🙌 Hear from Louise & Steve, who have worked in adult social care for many years and have progressed up to senior positions 🪜 Learn more about the many career opportunities here: skillshouse.co.uk/someone/ #Bradford #AdultSocialCare #Careers

Curriculum Manager and Careers Lead at Homefield College. Championing equality, empowerment, respect and sustainability
Exciting employer engagement update. Last academic year, for the first time ever, Homefield College offered a range of work placements across all study programmes. We had placements within organisations in the charity sector, retail, hospitality and horticulture and these will be offered again this coming year. Thank you to those of you involved in this initiative. I look forward to working with you again. How can I improve on that?! This coming year, Frances Mayor and I are finding dynamic ways of securing workbased encounters and experiences in some other key sectors: hospitality and catering (organisation now secured), manufacturing (organisation now secured), health & social care and hair & beauty. Worried you've missed the boat? If you have a labour need (immediate or future) or want to engage as part of your CSR or EDI strategy, we can tailor our activities based on the resources you can offer. At Homefield College we are building mutually beneficial partnerships with the organisations we work with. That's what employer engagement means to me. In the ever-evolving landscape of public #education, creativity has become the cornerstone of ensuring a seamless school year. As #Parkway and #Rockwood districts ushered in a new academic term on August 21, their commitment to innovation shined through in navigating #staffshortages and maintaining educational excellence. While #teaching positions remain well-staffed, essential support roles like custodians, bus drivers, and child nutrition workers present challenges. The pandemic has amplified these staffing gaps, leaving school authorities grappling with creative solutions to ensure smooth operations. Rockwood, boasting a legacy of 70 years, has witnessed human resources coordinator Stacy Neely's 30-year tenure. She highlights the unprecedented challenges in filling hourly support roles, attributing the scarcity to factors such as retirements and shifts in workforce dynamics post-pandemic. Efforts to #recruit and #retain staff abound, with initiatives ranging from job fairs to enhanced pay scales. Neely's commitment to recognizing potential within current staff is reflected in the district's journey of nurturing talent from custodians to supervisors. Pay raises, bonuses, and collaborations with student programs have emerged as strategies to attract dedicated individuals to the education sector. Parkway's Chief Human Resources Officer, Mike Baugus, underlines the significance of outsourcing services to alleviate staffing pressures. Chartwells caters to the district's cafeterias, and lawn maintenance is contracted out, allowing the schools to concentrate on their core mission of education. In a field that's faced its share of tribulations, Elizabeth Lamb, a dedicated support staff member and a mother of three, epitomizes the resilience of those powering the educational machinery. Having pivoted from cafeteria roles to classroom assistance, Lamb underscores the importance of a flexible schedule for working parents while embodying an unwavering commitment to students' growth.
