When it comes to Dutch architecture, opinions can be polarized. Some argue that it's always been, and continues to be, boring. But is that truly the case? Aaron Betsky challenges this notion of Dutch architecture as boring in his thought-provoking article on Dezeen. He highlights the diverse range of architectural styles and perspectives that Dutch architects offer, from the iconic works of Rem Koolhaas to the innovative designs of Wiel Arets and Jacob Van Rijs. My personal question is, is industrialization of the architectural practice what is causing the monotony of the boxes mentioned in the article, or will we continue to blame regulations? #DutchArchitecture #ArchitecturalPerspectives #DesignDiversity Link to article: https://lnkd.in/eAn7pReT

According to Andy Gibson, Style’s director for the north of England, an increasing number of architects are discussing their ideas with Style’s team early on in a project when it comes to flexible space. “The level of innovation in the moveable walls sector is happening at an incredible pace. We have fully automatic systems, vertically rising moveable walls, working walls that swivel to create collaborative space, walls that cater for stepped lecture theatres, glazed systems with magic glass that frosts at the push of a button to give privacy - and a whole host of other options. “We can therefore help architects find the best solution to turn their vision for flexible space into a reality, and we can offer advice on-site too.” Read the full article https://lnkd.in/eFPf_xhi #flexibleworkspace #flexiblespace #moveablewall #partition #architect #interiordesign #architecture

DID YOU KNOW? There is a large abandoned subway system beneath the streets of Cincinnati. Proposed in the 1910s, the project was interrupted by World War I and abandoned later. Many people don't realize that Cincinnati has a subway. The main reason is that the subway has never been in operation. The subway tunnel under the streets has been silent and abandoned for over 50 years. "It’s clear we live in a time where urban landscapes increasingly mirror each other with standardised commercial and corporate architecture. It’s easier, less risky and more cost efficient. But what of heritage, identity and preservation of culture? How do we – and should we — work to maintain a sense of place amidst the tide of globalisation?" "While it is positive to see places such as Cambridge North coming forward as a development of a ‘forgotten’ part of the city, why do all the images convey a standard corporate architecture that could be anywhere? What makes it Cambridge? Or in a global network, does it matter?" #architecture In Building Design., associate director at MCW architects, Hien Nguyen, examines the Cambridge North development and discusses the subject of homogeneous architecture as well as the challenges it presents for maintaining heritage. https://lnkd.in/eim3HN-P

The evolution of #architecture and space utilization is fascinating. In the #office world, we've seen everything from multi-office plans, to open floor plans, to accommodating remote access, to now - the new work era of #flexibility and #amenities. 2023 was the onset of this paradigm shift and as a result, architects are fielding a new set of tenant demands. Fast Company highlighted six new innovative designs from 2023 that offer a glimpse into where the field is headed this year and beyond. #NYC based architecture firms dominated the article >> https://lnkd.in/ggbKnYwF SO – IL - Practice for Architecture and Urbanism (PAU) - Rojkind Arquitectos - Callaghan Horiuchi - Marlon Blackwell Architects - American Museum of Natural History - Studio Gang - Natural Hazards Engineering - BOMA International
