In a thrilling surge of economic vitality, this February witnessed a seismic leap in Saudi Arabia's non-oil sector, propelling the Kingdom's Purchasing Managers Index from a robust 58.2 in January to a resounding 59.8. But, the true titans of this private sector resurgence are none other than the small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). And here's the electrifying twist… A significant number of these entrepreneurial powerhouses are now commanded by Saudi women, leading the charge with their indomitable spirit. Official data now proudly boasts that a staggering 45% of SMEs in the Kingdom are under the bold leadership of Saudi women. Among these remarkable pioneers is Marriam Mossalli, a prominent Saudi lifestyle editor, journalist, and founder of a communication agency. Over 13 years ago, she laid the foundation for her consultancy, Niche Arabia. Today, she's channeling her talents towards investing in female-owned start-ups, igniting a transformative spark in the landscape. Mossalli emphasized how the Kingdom is witnessing an increase in women not just in the workforce, but also in the world of entrepreneurship. “Whether it’s in tourism or technology, there are many sectors that are attractive to women and we are seeing more women take on the entrepreneurial role, “Women-owned companies in the Kingdom have increased by 60 percent in the past two years.” It's important to recognize that Saudi women have been pioneering their own businesses long before the transformative tides of Vision 2030 swept through the Kingdom. > Managing a family of 5 children  > Leading Al Jaber group with over 55,000 employees > Making $9 billion in assets and $2.8 billion in revenue    Meet Fatima Al-Jaber, COO of the $9 billion Al-Jaber Group and a mother of five.    She was born into a business family but forged her own path by working in the government sector. Despite the initial challenges of balancing her career and family responsibilities, she joined Al Jaber Group and other organisations, such as the Abu Dhabi Business Women's Council, as chairperson and was elected as the first Emirati woman to the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce.    Reading her story made me realise these 4 key lessons from her:    1) Continuous learning and growth:  Her decision to gain experience in the government sector even after having a family business and a family to manage highlights the importance of continuous learning and personal growth.   2) Balancing priorities:  Fatima's ability to juggle her responsibilities as a mother of five and a successful business leader serves as a testament to the significance of prioritising and striking a balance between personal and professional commitments. 3) Redefining societal norms:  After joining businesses and various organisations, Fatima challenged traditional gender roles and societal expectations. Her story encourages women to redefine societal norms and pursue their ambitions without compromising their personal identities. 4) Strategic networking: Fatima's involvement in organisations demonstrates the importance of strategic networking and building influential connections to drive change and create opportunities.
