Thanks Pallav Goyal for sharing these insights. Granting admissions exclusively to female candidates at an institution like the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in India, while aimed at promoting gender diversity, can indeed be perceived as biased. By reserving admissions only for female, male and non-binary individuals are excluded, which can be seen as discriminatory and contrary to the principle of equal opportunity. Such policies may compromise the merit-based admission system. If admissions are based solely on gender, some qualified candidates might be overlooked, potentially lowering the overall quality of the student body. There is a risk that female candiates admitted under such policies might be perceived as less qualified, leading to a stigma that their admission was not based on merit but on fulfilling a diversity quota. This can undermine the achievements of women and fuel resentment among other students. True diversity encompasses various dimensions including race, socioeconomic status, ethnicity, and sexual orientation. Focusing solely on gender overlooks these other important aspects, potentially leading to a less holistic approach to diversity. While the intention behind gender-specific admissions might be to correct historical gender imbalances and foster an inclusive environment, achieving diversity requires a more balanced approach that promotes equity without creating new forms of discrimination. Implementing comprehensive measures, such as targeted scholarships, mentorship programs, and outreach initiatives, might be more effective in promoting gender diversity without the drawbacks of exclusive admission policies.

IIM Ahmedabad PGP'25 | Entre VC | CAT'22 99.98 | CAT'23 99.95 | XAT'23 99.92 | ROAD TO CAT 99 | ICICI BANK | HINDU COLLEGE(IR 10)

19 boys and 434 girls were offered admission under the general category in IIM Rohtak This seems a big problem that needs to be addressed asap, as the institute is abolishing diversity in the name of diversity. It also reflects how biased the institute is in selecting the girls over and above, giving the diversity marks and, at the same time wasting the time and efforts of thousands of male aspirants. #rohtak #iimrohtak
