🌱🚀 4P CAPITAL invests in replacing traditional animal-derived collagen🚀🌱 Cambrium, a Berlin-based synthetic biology startup, and founded by Mitchell Duffy and Charlie Cotton, PhD, alumni from Imperial College London College, has recently completed a substantial seed funding round, securing a total of €8 million in investment. The round was led by Essential Capital and saw participation from SNR, Valor Equity Partners, HOF Capital, and prior funding from Merantix. This funding round brings the total raised by Cambrium to €11 million, signifying a strong vote of confidence from various investors in the company's mission and potential. 🌱💰 The focus of this funding injection is on scaling Cambrium's innovative approach, particularly in their flagship product, NovaColl. NovaColl represents a breakthrough in synthetic biology as it aims to replace traditional animal-derived collagen. Collagen, an essential protein found in various products such as skincare, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals, has historically been obtained from animal sources, raising ethical and environmental concerns. Cambrium's technology seeks to provide an animal-free alternative, reducing reliance on animal-derived collagen and its associated environmental impact. 🚀🐾 This significant investment round not only demonstrates confidence in Cambrium's innovative vision but also indicates a growing interest and support for sustainable, ethical, and environmentally conscious solutions within the synthetic biology and biotech sectors. The move towards animal-free collagen production not only addresses environmental concerns but also aligns with the growing consumer demand for sustainable and cruelty-free products. 🌍🌿 As Cambrium progresses in its mission, the allocation of these funds for the development and scaling of NovaColl is poised to further solidify its position as a key player in the movement towards ethical, sustainable, and innovative solutions in the realm of synthetic biology and environmental impact. 🌐💡 #vc #vegancollagen #aitechnology #SyntheticBiology🌱🌟

💥 Warning - lab-grown collagen nerding below, and a new member in the byFounders family! 💥 You've probably heard of collagen, right? Cosmetics, candies, supplements, etc Well, beyond giving a glow to your skin or making your gummy bears chewy, collagen has several absolutely crucial medical uses due to its unique properties that can provide structural support and strength to various tissues in the human body. A real wonder. A boom in demand. As we currently depend on animals for collagen, we have to face increased deforestation and animal cruelty to extract these precious complex proteins. Harsh dilemma that Jellatech is here to solve, by spearheading the sustainable production of complex proteins, starting by collagen! A huge shout out to Stephanie Michelsen for launching the commercialisation of such breakthrough technology, that will enables the production of bio-identical proteins through cellular agriculture. What a mission 🚀

Co-Founder & CEO @ Deep Blue BioTech | Climate Tech | Sustainable Design | CMO | Purpose & Social Impact
Amazing event yesterday run by BioIndustry Association (BIA) to present their Deep BioTech report (https://deepbiotech.org/). I may be boring everyone by repeating the same thing over and over, but this report reinforces my view of the power of #SyntheticBiology to redefine core industries and, in the words of BIA’ CEO Steve Bates OBE FMedSci "unlock a healthy bioeconomy by replacing environmentally damaging practices with a more sustainable bio-based ones”. Deep Blue BioTech is on a clear journey to unlock this power in the Beauty & and Wellbeing industry, landing a new generation of bioactives that will not only be sustainable but highly-efficacious for the industry’s core benefits. We’re getting there, faster than you think. 🚀 I loved the panel chaired by Linda Bedenik showing that UK’s intention to become a global leader in Engineering Biology is creating the supporting structure for start-ups like us can hit the ground running. Isabel Webb's assessment of where the key pain points are was spot on and it was nice to hear from Rita Cruz on how players like Ingenza Ltd can help us bridge that gap in preparation for international scale, where the government through arms like the British Patient Capital will speed up growth and scale, right George Mills, CFA? We're counting on that. Always great to catch up with the familiar and new faces making this journey happen (Sara Holland, Isabel Zhang, Sasan Fouladi-Pour, Nick Goodwin, Jack Weaver) If you want to know how SynBio can make ingredients even better, reach out! This week, FoodBev had the privilege of attending the opening of BioBetter’s first food-grade pilot facility located in northern Israel. 🍃 Phoebe Fraser & Siân Yates covered this important milestone and discovered inside-out what makes BioBetter™ a super startup. BioBetter’s CEO Amit Yaari detailed just how disruptive this new technology could be: “To illustrate, if cultivated meat were to take just 10% of the global meat market, this would require 17,000 tons of insulin. Today, the entire global capacity of insulin is only 30 tons…Just a year ago, we made the commitment to complete a food-grade pilot facility, we are now setting a goal to build a factory capable of producing up to five tons of growth factors per day by the end of 2025”. 🍔 🌎 Read more 👇 Oded Shoseyov Amit Yaari Shiri Yaniv Yonatan Eran Oren Levi Libit Bar Oz Camille Cavalcanti Dafni Folkman Denise Rubin #growthmedium #growthfactors #foodtech #startupgrowth

Earlier in October, cell-based dairy startup BIOMILQ and molecular farming startup Tiamat Sciences Corp. announced a collaboration to develop human prolactin, a key protein to support the growth and productivity of Biomilq’s human mammary epithelial cell system. The first time a cellular agriculture dairy player announced a partnership with a growth factor and protein production partner, the collaboration highlighted that cell-based dairy startups face similar scaling challenges as cell-based meat startups. Biomilq found that the plant-grown human prolactin was just as effective and more affordable. #cellag #partnership #dairy #supplychain #partnership

Saxo Investment News! 🥳 Today we are introducing you to our newest portfolio member SpexAI GmbH with its strong founding team Nadine Walther and Ben Niehaus! A warm welcome! The innovative startup SpexAI is revolutionising the legal cultivation of cannabis through a combination of artificial intelligence and high-resolution spectral cameras. Together with VIGO Ventures from Poland, TGFS Technologiegründerfonds Sachsen and Alumni Ventures from the USA, we at Saxovent secured the seed investment round as lead investor. "Our decision to invest in SpexAI is based on the impressive management team, strong customer demand and proven product-market fit. The attractiveness of the cannabis market and the potential in the greenhouse sector make this partnership a promising step into the future of sustainable agriculture," emphasizes our Head of Agriculture Jesko von Viereck. #Cannabis is a real all-rounder, but unfortunately also very emission-intensive. By detecting pests, diseases and cannabinoid content at an early stage and thus making targeted use of resources such as water or fertilizer, SpexAI can help to save a lot of #CO2. It is to be expected that the cultivation of many other plants, such as strawberries and tomatoes, can also be redesigned to be climate-friendly in the future! We are excited to see the impact of this smart solution and look forward to working with SpexAI! 💚 Further information can be found in our German press release: https://lnkd.in/ekZ9jJyq #Landwirtschaft #KünstlicheIntelligenz #Innovation
