Science knows no boundaries… So I’m extra excited to share Excedr's collaboration with our friends at the University of Toronto’s SpinUp at UTM. I know this is a little long, but I want to share this excerpt with you from their site about how SpinUp supports founders: “Early-stage entrepreneurs need dedicated, high-quality wet lab space and equipment to mature their intellectual property (IP) and attract external investment. But this space is scarce and often too expensive [...] SpinUp bridges the translation gap, providing early-stage life science founders access to highly subsidized wet lab co-working space, equipment, and infrastructure[...] Here, startups can focus their funds on developing their IP and strengthening their business case, tap the research strengths of a world top-twenty university and the commercial savvy of a world top-five university entrepreneurship network.” Fun fact: Since 2017, the only North American university to support more IP startups than U of T is… MIT. And at the risk of sounding like a broken record… I have to reiterate: Nothing like this existed just 10-12 years ago. Nada. Zilch. What an incredible achievement it is! We are thrilled to let you know that our Startup Grant (Gründungsstipendium) has gained international recognition and served as a source of inspiration for Luxembourg. Luxembourg has recently launched a similar support program for early-stage entrepreneurial ideas.   Two years ago, here in Vienna we felt that founders/startups with business ideas in their very early stages need also financial and professional support. Therefore, we have designed our program specifically in such a way that... ...we provide prospective founders with support right before the start, helping them bring their innovative business ideas to life and create strong, sustainable ventures that generate new job opportunities. ...we ensure founders can fully focus on implementation. We offer funding of up to €25,000 for the startup phase. ...we gain scholarship recipients access to an intensive coaching program provided by the Vienna Business Agency, where experts from the business and startup ecosystem help refine and develop their products, services, and business models.   The next program starts in December. What started out as an annual tradition hosted at the Liu Idea Lab for Innovation & Entrepreneurship has outgrown its roots in a big way. Yesterday, 400+ students, faculty, alumni, and members of the Greater Houston entrepreneurship community filled Rice University's Grand Hall for the 2024 Napier Rice Launch Challenge (NRLC) Championships! 1,300+ students enrolled in entrepreneurship courses this academic year, 100+ student teams applied for this year's NRLC, and ultimately five teams of finalists competed for $100,000 in equity-free funding. Looking back on my time as a student, Rice's culture of challenging convention and encouraging fiercely independent thought lays an incredible foundation for entrepreneurship and innovation. NRLC itself is so much more than one evening or an annual tradition - it's the culmination of nearly a year's worth of work. NRLC involves hundreds of students, faculty, alumni, and dedicated members of the Greater Houston entrepreneurship community coming together to help the next generation of founders break down barriers to solving tomorrow's problems today. We're working together to untangle the messy, winding road that is being a first-time founder to blaze a clear, more straightforward path for students and alumni to launch their vision. Nights like last night remind me that when you're part of a great community, the wind is always at your back. 🦉

Thank you, Dr. Franz MJ Pfister, MD, MBA , Sebastien Ourselin FREng FMedSci and Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München for the great organization of the AI Radiology Summit 2024 last week in Munich. A truly international event with really great speakers! The audience: a mix of data scientists, radiologists with an affinity for AI, investors and a few operators. It was a rare opportunity to share experiences 💡My takeaways: 🩻 Very many startups that focus on image analysis struggle with the acceptance of AI by radiology operators. Revenues are still quite low and the road to profitability 💰 is long 🩻 Surprisingly few start-ups really understand or want to understand the dynamics of reimbursement. AI helps optimize workflows (faster diagnosis for physicians), but more importantly, it leads to better outcomes (accuracy of diagnosis) and that should be paid for. 🩻 We have a global shortage of radiologists 👩⚕️. In emerging countries, there are up to ten times fewer radiologists per million inhabitants than in Europe, and the need for imaging is increasing. Artificial intelligence can be a real game changer 🩻 Too few start-ups are focusing on true workflow standardization. The entire image acquisition process should be fully standardized, not just parts of it (e.g. sequences) Looking forward to the event in 2025! PS: the average radiology center has applied only one AI tool. I hope that increases till next year dramatically. We @ medneo will definitely 😉deliver our share. #radiology #MRI #MRT #KI
