"🙏 Gratitude for the Homeless Community 🙏 and especially to Benjamin who is spreading so much Christmas Joy in Forest Row. In this season of giving, I wanted to take a moment to express my deep appreciation for the homeless community. Despite facing unimaginable challenges, they demonstrate incredible resilience and strength every day. 🌟 It's important to recognize that homelessness can happen to anyone, and it's not a reflection of a person's worth. Each individual has a unique story, and by showing gratitude, we can foster empathy and understanding. 💪 Let's acknowledge the inspiring qualities of the homeless community - their resourcefulness, adaptability, and the determination to overcome adversity. They teach us valuable lessons about resilience and the power of the human spirit. 🤝 As we reflect on our own blessings, let's also remember the importance of supporting and empowering those who are experiencing homelessness. Whether it's through volunteering, donating, or advocating for change, every small action can make a difference. 🌍 Together, let's create a more compassionate society where everyone has access to the support and opportunities they need to thrive. #Gratitude #HomelessCommunity #Empathy #Resilience"

The first step in solving a problem is to define and understand the problem. Homelessness is no different. For the last 25 years, Solutions for Change has been successfully solving family homelessness because they have identified and understand the REAL problem. The real problem is the churn of poverty and dependency. Here is how it works: 1. Something traumatic happens in a person's life and they do not have the skills or tools to deal with it. They turn to coping mechanisms creating a sense of victimhood. 2. Well intentioned people come along to help by offering handouts. 3. This creates a dependency on the handouts and in turn further deepens the sense of victimhood. 4. The greater the sense of victimhood, the more handouts are required, which leads to further dependency...and the churn continues around and around. Please consider helping us fight the Churn. Your tax deductible donation (link is below in the comments), no matter the amount, will go a long way in underwriting the futures of the families in our program. |Chris Megison|Kathryn Warren, MBA|Dennis Bone|Jennifer Pankey #WeAreOneUs #unmaskthechurn

Did you know that: · At least 4.2 million young people experience a form of homelessness each year, from couch surfing to living on the streets. · At least 700,000 adolescent minors ages 13 to 17 experience a form of homelessness every year — that’s 1 of every 30 adolescent minors. · 57% of homeless kids spend at least one day of every month without food. You can make a difference: $10 will provide an outreach kit with water, toiletries, snacks, and resources to one unhoused youth. $50 will fill a backpack for one youth with essential school supplies. $80 will provide a young person in our care with one week of nutritious meals. $111 supports a newly arrived young person on their first day at Covenant House, which includes intake services, fresh linens, and staffing costs to maintain sanctuary. These simple things- nourishing food, safety, rest, and companionship- mean so much to young people facing homelessness. Please consider donating to my SleepOut for Covenant House by clicking on the Covenant House banner below. Every dollar helps. #CHSleepOut #WeAreCisco
I'm giving up my bed so youth facing homelessness can find a safe place to sleep.

It's well known that we do not have enough housing in the valley to serve all community members. 🏘️ What we don't often think about is that victims of domestic violence and abuse likely don't have anywhere to live after leaving their abuser. Domestic violence is the leading cause of homelessness for women and children, and fear of losing housing is one of the top reasons that a victim won’t leave their abuser. Local nonprofit, Response, is determined to change that. Responses' capital campaign has a clear goal: build its first shelter in Basalt. The 10 yo and I (plus Eddie George, our puppy Go Bucks!) are heading outside in a few minutes for our 3rd annual, Covenant House Illinois National Sleep Out! Trying to make a small difference for homeless youth in our community. The Covenant House Sleep Out is not just an event; it's a call to action. Every year, thousands of young people face the harsh reality of homelessness. Charlie and I believe that no youth should ever have to endure the streets alone. Cheers also to my 1871 colleague Gabby Snedeker who has been participating for many years and longtime friend James Coleman who introduced me to this important organization. By sleeping out for one night, we stand in solidarity with these resilient young people and raise crucial funds to provide shelter, support, and opportunities for a brighter future. It's about more than spending a night outside; it's about creating awareness and tangible change. Why is this cause so important to me as a parent and us as a family? 🌟 Deepening our empathy: Putting ourselves in their shoes for a night fuels our commitment to making a meaningful impact. 🌟 Empowering the next generation: Teaching Charlie the value of empathy, compassion, and activism from a young age. 🌟 Making a real difference: Every dollar raised goes directly toward providing vital services to homeless youth. Let's come together to give them the hope and support they deserve. Together, we can light the way for a brighter future for homeless youth. ✨ #CovenantHouse #SleepOut #YouthEmpowerment #CommunitySupport

Helping great leaders, coaches and business owners become powerful public speakers and storytellers | Ancient Buddhist wisdom meets modern coaching | Power Party group programme | 1:1 | Team training | Cambridge Alumnus
I've just had the most wonderful 90 minutes with Del Thomas at Off the streets Southend on sea. What an amazing team, helping people who are rough sleeping in their community. Any of us could end up homeless. Certain people are just good at dehumanising other, so we don't realise how true this is. Del posted on here recently about fundraising, so I offered to have a chat to brainstorm ideas. It's not something I specialise in now, but I know how challenging this is for smaller not-for-profits. I used to fundraise for my own role and team, taking us from part-time fixed term contracts to permanent members of staff. Big love for Del and colleagues. I hope it was helpful! I learnt a lot too. Did you know that marital breakdown is a key driver of homelessness for many people? And even people like Del, who has worked in the sector for years and was previously a primary school teacher, find it hard to talk to kids about the issue? That's why he's written a children's book, which I'm really looking forward to seeing published. We need to do more to counter the awful narratives we see by having these discussions at a younger age. I'm really pleased I followed my gut to DM Del. It didn't matter that we'd never met before. How about spreading the love this week? What if you reached out to one person you've never met on here... who is working on similar issues as you or has some overlap with your objectives... and offer a chat to help them problem solve an issue they're talking about? And of course, at the end I've invited Del to come check out the free training and support I'm offering to help teams stay strong and well... because Del is awesome and I'd love to spend more time with him.. but if the immediate need is getting money in and I can help a bit with that... then great. p.s. How about giving Off the Street a load of money today? Outrageous acts of generosity are good for your soul. https://lnkd.in/ebasZpRs
