Financial abuse occurs in 99% of domestic violence cases and its effects are felt long after a survivor leaves the relationship. IMPACT: During the past year, three graduates of our transitional housing program have purchased their own homes. Transitional housing participants receive subsidized rent, utilities and basic needs so they can concentrate on debt reduction, job stability, improving credit scores, education and other issues that have a major impact on their finances. NEED: Housing in safe neighborhoods with good schools averages about $1,200 per month MORE than what families leaving our safe house can generally afford! Increased funding for our housing programming could mean increased options for families leaving our safe house, allowing survivors to focus on reversing the effects of financial abuse and building toward financial stability. www.wrcdv.org/donate #TwoTruths #GIvingTuesday2023 #wrcdv #charity #atlanta #dekalb #domesticviolence #donate

When you next take a trip into Kingston, take a look around… 3 in every 10 children will be from families struggling to buy basic school supplies (Action for Children) A third of people would be unable to afford their next rent or mortgage payment if they lost their job (Gov.UK/Shelter) 1 in 5 adults will have suffered domestic violence (NCDV) These are tough times. When you buy a £10, £30 or £100 heart, you could change a local life https://lnkd.in/et2Bvd_n £10 could provide school supplies for a child whose family are floundering during the Cost of Living Crisis £30 could provide new cookware and cutlery for someone who’s transitioning out of homelessness £100 could enable a survivor of domestic abuse to buy new clothes (after they left their old ones behind) What will you say to celebrate Love Kingston Day? Write a message of kindness and encouragement when you donate, and we’ll pass it along to someone who needs to read your words. Twice the giving, twice the good - The Rowan Bentall Charitable Trust will generously match fund your donation - that means every penny you donate will be doubled - for twice the smiles, twice the hope, and twice the lives transformed. And if you’re a UK taxpayer, you can add Gift Aid at no extra cost to you - boosting your donation by a further 25%! So your £10 donation could transform into £22.50. Let’s show those in our community in need that we are with them and empower change with love, Kingston. https://lnkd.in/et2Bvd_n #kingstonuponthames #sharethelove #lovekingston #matchfunding #supportlocal #grants #kingstoncharitablefoundation

Exciting news in the philanthropy world! Renowned entrepreneur Dick Smith has made a generous commitment to donate his $300 energy rebate announced in the Federal Budget this week to the Salvation Army, urging fellow millionaires to follow suit. Dick Smith's message is clear and inspiring: "Not all of us need that money. There are millions of Australians that are doing OK. Donate the money to an important charity and that means the money won't be wasted." In a time where every little bit helps, this gesture of kindness demonstrates a powerful way to make a significant impact. This act of generosity can serve as a reminder of the impact we can have when we redirect resources to where they are most needed. So many Australian families, including kinship and foster care households face significant financial challenges daily. For carers, additional financial support really does go a long way, grants for the purchase of items for the children and young people in their care can mean the world, especially when the cost of living is so high. Through our fundraising at OzChild we can help with the costs of tutoring, counselling, car seats, and even prescription glasses for kids – practical items that make caring a little bit easier. But we can’t do that alone. No not-for-profit organisation can, we rely on the generosity of others to make it possible for us to help lighten the load for families. Let’s join forces to make a difference! I encourage everyone who can, to consider this impactful choice. Whether it’s a donation to the Salvation Army, OzChild or another charity close to your heart, let’s turn our rebates into a collective effort for good. #Philanthropy #SocialImpact #GivingBack #CommunitySupport

Wednesday is #TeamMeeting day. No #OfficeBakeOff this week as we are so low on staff numbers, hoping to be back to it next week! 6 team members in place for this mornings meeting, with 1 of those attending virtually. It was noted that there has been a significant increase in new cases needing to be triaged and offered appointments. With low staff numbers we are doing our best to ensure that everyone of them is offered the advice and support they need. No #SafeGuarding concerns to report this week Graham was particularly pleased to be looking to close 4 of his cases over the next few days 29 cases of general concern discussed Looking at our latest data: Total cases for the year so far: 376 of which 239 are #NoFixedAbode cases These numbers are a significant increase on our visitor numbers for the whole of 2022. #Homelessness #HousingCrisis #CostOfLivingCrisis #EndHomelessness #Charity #Housing

One of the best things about working for Totem Consulting (and there are many!) is being connected to The Totem Foundation. Each time we deliver an internal knowledge sharing session to the team, The Foundation donates a fee to the charity of our choosing. For my session on Positive Psychology this month I chose Gingerbread (www.gingerbread.org.uk). Gingerbread has been helping to support single parents and influence policy since 1918. Here are some stats about single parents in the U.K. I didn’t know before: ❗ Almost a quarter of families with dependent children in the UK are single parent families. 🚺 90% of single parents are women 📌 28% have a disability (compared to 14% of couple parents) 🛑 21% are from a Black or minority ethnic background (compared to 16% nationally) ➡ The average age of a single parent is 39 I have such respect for anyone who finds themselves as a single parent, for whatever reason. I’m pleased to have been able to play a small part in supporting this important group in our society by nominating Gingerbread. #singleparents #giving #positivepsychology #charity
