- If you include any virtual components in your sales task, you'll need to make sure your reps are highly skilled at using virtual technologies. Now, you might be thinking, "Hey, what's the big deal? Everyone knows how to use Zoom or Teams. Just turn on your webcam and go, right?" Well, not so fast. In the professional world of sales, this approach won't cut it. Here's why, if you set high standards for your sales reps when they meet the clients in person, you will want to set the same or even higher standards for when they meet clients virtually. Here's what that looks like. First is appearance. If reps wear a suit and tie to a client location, I believe you want them looking the same onscreen. That level of dress brings a sense of credibility and expertise, and the rep will lose this if he or she just wears the casual home clothes. Next is technology.
