- [Instructor] Unless you bought your Raspberry Pi as a complete kit, you'll need a power supply. Often you can simply use a standard phone charger, but there are a couple of things you'll want to be aware of. USB power supplies, such as used for phone chargers, should always supply 5 volts DC, and the vast majority accomplish this. However, an occasional charger will be defective and will not supply this necessary voltage. Power supplies should also supply at least two amps. The best way to be able to tell this is by reading the label. Power supplies will tell you the output voltage and number of amps. It's okay if this is greater than two amps. In fact, I prefer three amps or more. The Raspberry Pi will tell you if it isn't getting enough power. Watch in the upper right-hand corner for a low power warning.
