- It's always a good idea to establish metrics prior to a project or a program. After all, that's how we measure whether objectives and goals are being met. It may seem obvious, but this step is too often skipped or addressed poorly. I encourage you to make it a priority. Data governance can be measured, both qualitatively and quantitatively. Overall, we want data governance to result in higher quality data related outcomes. These include increased competitiveness, better decision-making, less data errors, greater efficiencies, lower costs, and successful privacy, security, and compliance results. For each, we can measure parameters related to people, process technology and data. It's a tall order, but metrics are central to track and manage progress in each of these areas and others.
