- Industrial automation components include everything involved to complete the task or processes needed. Components include controllers like programmable logic controllers or PLC and distributed control systems or DCS. Field industrial devices like sensors, actuators, motors, vision cameras, et cetera. Industrial communication and networking. Human machine interface or HMI. Supervisory control and data acquisition software or SCADA. Even personal computers, tablets, or any monitoring devices. Here's an example of a general layout of an industrial process. Having a process with different sensors and devices connected to a controller, and then using a software to program and monitor the process.
