- Banks, often partnering with a payroll service provider, can handle all payroll functions for their customers, especially their small business customers. Taking care of a company's payroll is a nightmare. I know this from personal experience. Many years ago, I was the bookkeeper for a partnership of three doctors. This medical practice had about 15 employees. Well, how difficult could it be to prepare the paychecks every two weeks for just 15 people? Well, it was difficult. I had to compute the payroll taxes, income tax withholding, vacation pay accruals, insurance contributions, and more. And I had to keep track of how much of this payroll-related cash had to be sent to various government agencies, to healthcare providers, and to others. The part that made me most nervous was the payroll taxes and the withheld income taxes. I was always aware that making a mistake with this was a violation of state and federal regulations.…
