- [Instructor] You can work more efficiently in Excel if you're familiar with a number of shortcuts that make your day-to-day usage of this software a lot more efficient. A number of these are listed in the green panel to the right. 10 different tips. Let's start with column D here. I'm about to write a formula here to calculate a new salary based on the old salary and a 2.7% increase. When I finish writing the formula, instinct is, well, you press Enter. But I want to copy this formula down the column. I want the active cell to stay in place. Anytime you're making a cell entry and you do not want the active cell to move when you finish the entry, simply press Control + Enter instead of Enter. So a simple formula here, equal this salary here, times that percent of increase. I will be copying it, so I'll make that an absolute address by pressing the function key F4, and then add that onto the existing salary. But I…
