Measure AC voltage

Measure AC voltage

- The most common source of alternating current is a wall outlet. And I can use my digital multi meter to measure the voltage of that AC signal. Now, before I go any further, I want to make it clear that the voltages used in power outlets, are high enough to be dangerous. So you should never stick anything into a wall outlet that's not designed for it. The specific DMM I'm using, is rated to measure voltages up to 600 volts. Which is well over the voltage of this power outlet. To measure the voltage of an alternating current source, I'll start by connecting the black probe to the center comm port, and the red probe to the right port, which includes a V for voltage. Next I'll need to turn the selector knob to the AC voltage mode, which is represented on my multimeter with the letter V and a squiggly line. Since I'm in the United States where the power outlets operate around 120 volts AC, I've selected the 200 volt…
