Essential communication skills for courageous leadership
In the fourth century BC, Greek philosopher, Aristotle, wrote a book called "Rhetoric." The book provides instruction for public speaking and persuasion, where he introduces three principles to effective communication, logos, pathos, and ethos. Aristotle believed influential speakers incorporated these elements. Logos refers to the use of logical reasoning, evidence, and facts to support an argument or persuade an audience. It involves presenting a well-structured and reasoned argument that relies on data, statistics, research, and logical connections between ideas. Logos aims to convince the audience through sound reasoning and clear rational explanations. When using logos, the speaker seeks to demonstrate that their viewpoint is based on credible information and logical deductions. Pathos involves appealing to the emotions and feelings of the audience.
