- I'll pick an easy scenario first. We'll say working at heights near a completely unprotected edge on the top of a tall building. Obviously the consequences of someone walking or stumbling off the unprotected edge are as serious as it gets. Extreme bodily injury or more likely death. Okay, now how about the likelihood of that happening? This is where I'm going to be realistic. I'm going to take into account my experiences and the statistics out there that show how often this kind of thing does happen. Based on that, I'm going to say it's very likely to happen. In fact, I know that unfortunately it happens all the time. So high probability plus the worst imaginable consequences. That tells me that this is completely unacceptable. I'll spend money on erecting some sort of temporary guardrail system, and I'll make sure that this is in someone's scope of work for the project. I can't afford for this one to be overlooked.…
