- My father-in-Law was a manager at the phone company for decades, and he was recognized regularly for his strong connection with people. In his heart, management wasn't just about a job title or money. He had old fashioned values, cared about his team, and took pride in the satisfaction of a job well done. Employees join a company for many reasons, but they stay for managers who live their values. But the phrase "live your values" is so vague though. What does that even mean? Well, I think it comes down to integrity. And integrity has five parts. The first is a work ethic. My father-in-law taught me that a job worth doing is a job worth doing well. Yes, that's an old school way of thinking and operating, but everything old is new again. Want to inspire loyalty and get people to stay? You have to show them that you're not above rolling up your sleeves and working hard until a job is done. Next is respect. Exceptional managers don't inspire loyalty by boasting about their titles.
