St. Michael Catholic Church is looking for a passionate, dedicated, in love with Christ youth minister, who will engage our teens and encourage them to a deeper relationship with Christ by leading teens into Christ’s sacrificial presence inside the walls of church and beyond the walls of the church. This person must meet teens where they are on their faith journey by speaking the Truth and pushing teens beyond mediocrity and into a deeper relationship with Christ. Witnessing and teaching our Faith with bold passion, bold love, and bold truth while strengthening our teens’ Catholic identity by rooting them firmly in Christ and His Church, this person must be committed to our teens and parish.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Implement a parish-based pastoral ministry that reaches out to the high school and middle school youth of our parish.
  • Create and energetically grow the ministry with passion and a strong Catholic Faith
  • Communicate effectively with teens, parents, staff, and the rest of the parish - advocate and educate.
  • Proficient with social media and technology
  • Have excellent leadership skills.
  • Be well organized with good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Be able to coordinate and work in partnership with other adults in the parish.
  • Reach out to our youth in local schools and at school and community events.
  • Organize and direct youth retreats and mission trips.
  • Recruit a team of adult volunteers, to be presented and ultimately appointed by the Pastor, to the “Core Team”. Train and educate the “Core Team”.
  • Develop and maintain an annual budget.
  • Fundraise with the help of a dedicated person or committee.
  • Be an active and visible presence in the parish community - at Mass and other parish events through prayer, community building, and service.
  • Be or become a member of our parish.
  • This is a minimum forty-hour per week position. Office hours are flexible due to the demands of regular evening and weekend work.


Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in theology, religious studies, or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and leading youth programs.
  • Knowledge of theology and biblical studies.
  • Compliance with Safe Environment screening.


Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, vendors, employees, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

The work environment varies according to the ministry or program. Indoors the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Outdoor work on mission trips and outreach programs is in the summer heat and at times requires strenuous activity. Other outdoor diocesan events during the year also involve strenuous activity. Interaction usually includes large numbers of children, adolescents, and adults.
