Virtual School Mental Health Counselor

ACCEL Schools is seeking a highly-qualified School Mental Health Counselor in Ohio who is dedicated to providing a superior education for all students in our upcoming 2024-2025 school year! The School Mental Health Counselor will work closely with the school’s administrative and counseling teams to coordinate, facilitate, and implement mental health support services. The role will provide mental health services to students for emotional support and foster a safe and successful learning environment for students while building students’ capacity for academic success and positive social and emotional well-being.

About The Opportunity

Responsibilities and qualities of the School Mental Health Counselor include to:

  • Provide diagnostic assessments
  • Develop individual service plans and review plans
  • Conduct individual and group counseling as it relates to academic functioning
  • Develop groups and programs relevant to adolescent skill-building and psychosocial education
  • Maintain appropriate clinical and school records and provide written reports and communications
  • Provide crisis intervention and assistance
  • Identify and collaborate with community agencies, and act as a liaison between the school and agencies
  • Suggest professional development that will meet the needs of the team and overall school
  • Provide expert knowledge of techniques needed to successfully complete effective Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA), function –based interventions, and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP)
  • Work with staff on issues such as: crisis intervention, learning and collaboration issues, and factors that can affect development and implementation of interventions.
  • Promote school culture through daily practices, positive attitude and collaboration with students, families and staff

About You:

  • Current or ability to obtain Pupil Services licensure
  • Master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling, social work, or related field
  • Microsoft Office and Google Suite proficiency
  • Experience with K-12 online learning
  • Ability to function as part of a school-based team
  • Experience with Local, State, and Federal laws and mandated reporting
  • Ability to handle confidential information responsibly and exhibit sound judgment while maintaining that confidentiality
  • Demonstrates a reliable, dependable, and trustworthy work ethic
  • Ability to manage difficult or emotional situations
  • Ability to make sound judgments after all available information has been gathered or communicated
  • Demonstrates a mature attitude and insight into matters affecting department, self and / or school welfare
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure, effectively prioritizing and executing tasks to meet deadlines consistently
  • Ability to work independently and contribute to a team
  • Ability to pass federal and state criminal background checks
