SUMMARY: 

The Vice President of Chamber Relations is responsible for managing the Chamber’s external communications and community relations. This includes overseeing member communications, public and media relations, marketing strategies, event development and execution, program management (including committees), and member and volunteer engagement.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Supervise and direct the Director of Events and Director of Marketing.
  • Ensure consistent messaging, increasing credibility and professionalism within the business community and the media.
  • Oversee the development, production, and distribution of all Chamber communications and publications.
  • Assist in preparing, supporting, and monitoring the annual budget for programs, events, communications, and public relations activities.
  • Ensure that members and the community are informed about the Chamber’s mission while maintaining a positive public image in the community and beyond.
  • Oversee all Chamber events, including securing sponsorships, particularly for the Star-Spangled Salute.
  • Oversee the creation of effective advertising and marketing campaigns to increase attendance, sponsorships, and volunteer participation.
  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with all area media representatives.
  • Solicit feedback from members through surveys, focus groups and other means to assess their needs and the effectiveness of Chamber programs and benefits.
  • Explore, vet, and recommend member benefits, and collaborate with staff to implement them.
  • Advise and assist team members with their communications for specific programs, issues, and events.
  • Oversee the M-Squad Ambassador volunteer program, responsible for ribbon cuttings, groundbreakings, and other business engagement events.
  • Oversee the Young Professionals of Midland program and its associated committees.
  • Oversee the WTx Women’s Symposium Steering Committee.
  • Work with third-party partners to produce annual Chamber publications, including the Midland Guide and Map.
  • Attend meetings of various outside organizations as requested by President/CEO.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support overall Chamber objectives and programming.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and CERTIFICATION: Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, event management or a related field; or two years’ experience in working in marketing, event management, or a similar or related role; staff management experience preferred. A valid and current Texas driver's license is required.


LANGUAGE SKILLS: Proficient in reading, researching, understanding, and analyzing complex documents. Capable of writing reports and related correspondence. Able to speak effectively before groups, customers, or employees of the organization. Skilled in dealing effectively, personably, and positively with individuals, including public officials, staff, volunteers, media, and the general public.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:  Ability to understand and apply concepts equivalent to at least high school-level math.


OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential. Excellent listening skills are crucial. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks with strong organizational skills.  Proficient in Microsoft Office 365, including advanced skills in Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Teams. Proficient in utilizing the internet and web CMSs. Strong capability to create and manage documents, spreadsheets and presentations with high efficiency and accuracy. Professional appearance and demeanor are essential.   Must possess strong interpersonal skills to maintain good relationships with public officials, media, staff, fellow employees, volunteers, Chamber members, other business organizations, and the general public. 


WORKING CONDITIONS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands to handle or control objects or equipment. The employee frequently needs to talk or listen. Additionally, the employee must stand, walk, climb stairs, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, or crouch. Sufficient manual dexterity is necessary to operate a computer keyboard and calculator. The employee will spend some time working outside of the regular workplace, occasionally in outdoor weather conditions.


The employee must occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.


The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
