Delaware's Attorney General, the State's chief law enforcement officer, has a broad responsibility to combat crime, uphold civil rights, safeguard families, fight fraud, and protect consumers in the First State. In meeting this mission, Attorney General Kathy Jennings is supported by teams of talented lawyers and staff in the Criminal, Civil, Family, Fraud and Consumer Protection, and Civil Rights and Public Trust Divisions. Each of the more than 500 staff who work in the Office of the Attorney General are dedicated to serving all Delawareans with integrity and passion. Deputy Attorneys General, with critical support from criminal special investigators, victim service specialists, paraprofessionals, and administrative staff, prosecute criminal cases, enforce consumer laws, provide counsel to state agencies, ensure the public's access to open government, protect the abused, and much more.

Summary Statement

The Criminal Division seeks a Deputy Attorney General to serve as Unit Head for the Felony Screening Unit in New Castle County. The Felony Screening Unit is responsible for intaking felony cases, handling preliminary hearings in the Court of Common Pleas, and reviewing cases to determine what level of prosecution, if any, is appropriate.

Essential Functions

The Unit Head will be responsible for managing the unit and supervising Deputy Attorney General’s in Court. This Unit is a fast-paced and high-volume Unit and requires candidates with exceptional communication and organizational skills. Candidates should also have a thorough knowledge of court rules and procedures.

Job Requirements

As Unit Head, candidates must be prepared to manage all aspects of the unit. From file creation to preliminary hearings, to intake review. Candidates must have excellent communication skills and be able to develop a good working relationship with other DAGs, administrative support staff, victims, law enforcement, court personnel, and the defense bar. Candidates must also have excellent organizational skills to successfully navigate the fast-pace and high-volume of this unit. Lastly, candidates must have the ability and determination to learn new areas of the law, develop and guide priorities for screening, and assist in the training and improvement of intakes. Membership in the Delaware Bar required.
